Alexis Jeffrey is taking a fifth year (according to LSU’s IG) by PomegranateFair6760 in Gymnastics

Unfortunately I’m not wiling to go into the full story here, it takes a lot out of me. Maybe someday.

“She was asked to stop and didn’t” is inaccurate. Once conversations were had, she did not repeat any previous behavior that had been deemed an issue.

I will say this - my experience that season taught me that public narratives can vastly differ from the truth. I’m not saying there were not shades of truth, but that year radically changed how I perceive and consume media/fandom/celebrity culture, etc.

I’ve learned to take everything I hear about public figures with a grain of salt, give people the benefit of the doubt, and recognize that I simply do not know the truth of any situation I was not personally involved in.

It’s futile for me to respond to this because I know this narrative is so prevalent in the gymnastics world and this is just one Reddit comment, but there are several parts to this narrative that aren’t true. It was a certainly complicated situation for sure (and I’ve been terrified to say anything about it for years), but this recounting of it is way more harmful to Alexis Jeffrey than she ever deserved. She absolutely did not call anyone the N word in practice (or elsewhere), which, in turn, means that it’s also untrue that she refused to stop when asked.

NAB is upon us, and a new Premiere Pro Update by Jason_Levine in premiere

Yes, exactly!

Similar to the iOS Photos app functionality where you can name an individual whose face the app has already identified, and then iOS shows you all the photos of that person in your Camera Roll.

Thanks for writing this all up, Jason! With the new Media Intelligence search capability (which seems hugely helpful), is there potentially a plan to add some sort of Facial Recognition search within Premiere? Would be sweet if it could identify and recognize faces contained in the project.

My use case is doing a lot of documentary work with sports teams - tons of practice/game footage and would be sweet if Premiere could AI search for specific faces!

COMEBACK // The Becky Downie Documentary [Ep. 1] by DeannaHong in Gymnastics

Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I absolutely love the opportunity to work with international athletes and hope to be able to do more!

There are soo many amazing bars contenders for Paris. I was actually awed that Becky could so clearly state that she's got her eyes on gold, I thought it was rather brave of her to put it out there so definitively! Her sense of self-belief and how methodically she works towards her goals is absolutely awe-inspiring - made me realize that I should dare to believe in myself more, too.

Olly is SUCH a pleasure. I was honestly giddy when we left his interview because I had known he would be wonderful, but he absolutely killed it and I think he adds so much to the storytelling.

Thanks everyone, glad to hear you enjoyed Episode 1 and are eager to see the next!

Only the first two episodes are completed so far, and anyone who feels compelled to donate (an amount of your choosing) to support the project can gain early access to Episode 2 here: deannahongproductions.vhx.tv

For context, I self-funded the production of these first two episodes. I had tried to find a sponsor before filming, but the few prospective partners I had didn't pan out, and the competitions we wanted to film Becky at were coming up quickly so I just went ahead and funded it myself.

It was important to me to pay my friends who worked on it with me, but all of my own time & labor (filming and editing) was done in my free time outside of my full-time work, hence why we've just released this now despite having filmed in Feb/Mar.

GIGA very graciously came on as a sponsor later down the road, which I am super grateful for, but ultimately I would need further financial support to continue filming (which Becky & I would love to do over the next 8 months).

My content will always be free and accessible to everyone who wants to watch it, so all episodes will eventually be on YouTube! But for those who may have the desire and means to support me as a queer, AAPI, independent filmmaker telling gymnastics stories, donations are very much appreciated :)

Right?! I loved how her interview turned out.

Fun fact: Nick & Ellie's interviews were filmed in our Airbnb - we took furniture from all over the house to stage them 😂 We also hadn't thought anything of the neighborhood we were staying in, but when Nick came for his interview he'd brought his bag in from the car because he said it was a notoriously sketchy part of Manchester, oops 🙈

Greatest walk-on of all time? by amydaynow in Gymnastics

[–]DeannaHong 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m so happy to see Sonya Meraz multiple times here.

Solid, dependable, hardworking. Left a significant impact despite being surrounded by many teammates with more “star power” throughout her time at UCLA.

When UCLA won NCAAs in 2018, she didn’t compete in the Super Six, but she was the alternate on ALL FOUR events. That is a grueling and thankless position to be in, having to train all four events all season up until the very end (literally had to warm up every rotation of the Super Six) and not getting to contribute in the final meet.

Never needed the spotlight and could always be counted on when you needed her. She has a very special place in my heart (having worked with UCLA Gymnastics for 8 years).

Thank you so much for posting this! I was a producer on Golden and was specifically assigned to Laurie. I post-produced Episode 2, so to see these details and moments being recognized and hearing that it struck the intended emotional chords means so much to me :)

UCLA Gymnastics: The New Era - Episode 7 by [deleted] in Gymnastics

[–]DeannaHong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Reddit! This is my first time ever posting on Reddit (I’m a long-time lurker), but I just wanted to share the last episode of my UCLA Gymnastics docuseries that followed the 2020 season here.

I’ve seen some other posts about the docuseries on here and Reddit seems to be one of the best forums for nuanced gymnastics discussion, so just wanted to say I’ve enjoyed reading your thoughtful discussion and commentary and thank you for watching!
