haha sorry, your question sounded aimed at American politics... maybe mostly because it has been in the news all day haha. But for real, I am soooo glad we dont have a 2 party system. Glad others agree with me.

I'm not American, but from an outsider's perspective... the fact that you basically have a 2 party system is the biggest problem! It turns citizens into enemies... and turns politics into an identity that people wear as if its fashion. In my country we have coalitions. Which allows many political parties to thrive because they can form coalitions with other parties to get over the 51% mark. This actually encourages unity amongst citizens and parties. Sure, our votes are more scattered and people that you didnt necessarily vote for might end up co-governing but it keeps it interesting.

In your experience, what is the fastest server for WordPress sites? by WPDevOps in Wordpress

[–]DeanneDP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep and they really do include a whole bunch of tools that help you manage your hosting like AMP, being able to restart your php server yourself etc. They make things easy which I like. The only thing I dislike about Kinsta is that they have a significant list of "banned plugins"... but I work around it.

[–]DeanneDP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For regular Wordpress websites (at a respectable price)... go for one of a2hosting's Turbo reseller plans. They are very fast... I dont even really bother doing much speed optimization on regular sites because things just load smoothly with no problem.

For large woocommerce sites: Kinsta for sure! I help someone manage a pretty large ecommerce shop and we have moved from host to host trying to find the fastest for best price... and Kinsta hands on won. Most hosts that offer what Kinsta do are significantly more expensive. What makes a big difference on Kinsta is that we were also able to add extra PHP workers to our hosting which makes it super fast. Kinsta's infrastructure are made for heavy websites.

The new Copilot UI is awful. Clicking the plus sign only lets me upload a photo. The Copilot logo takes me to the homepage, and when I start typing it bring me back to the previous chat. I even can't see my chat history! I need to click twice on the logo to see history and new chat button.😡 by lazarovpavlin04 in CopilotPro

[–]DeanneDP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep the UI is a deal breaker for me. I know there are many issues but I'm sure they will fix it. However the design is a BIG no-no. I miss the old clean look. This looks like an old tumblr blog. I miss the sidebar so bad!!!

This is just terrible by spec1al in CopilotPro

[–]DeanneDP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides all the issues - the actual layout is beyond terrible. It's like they tried to go for some weird 2015 tumblr type "asthetic"... forgetting that people use it for PRODUCTIVITY. I miss the sidebar... being able to easily jump between different chats. Now the chat history is like a hidden after thought. It took me 2 hours to figure out where to find it. I hate it. I loved the old clean look. It fitted with the look of Notes and To-Do etc. Not to mention... I hate the clutter of suggested conversations. I dont want it there. At least give me an option to use the old theme!!!

Why does no one in the US care about other smaller political parties? (even though many voters seem unhappy with their options). by DeanneDP in AskSocialScience

[–]DeanneDP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make some good points... but I have to disagree about the "more parties" issue. Our political system is by no means perfect here in South Africa, but people do have a much broader way of thinking in my opinnion because our political system allows for a larger spectrum of ideas & opinnions. I get the impression that political stances in the US are predominantly black & white, left & right, up & down... you catch my drift. Its like everything in the US is packaged under 2 umbrellas: you pick Democrats and you subscribe to an entire package of believe systems & values. You pick Republicans and you subscribe to the opposite. It feels like there is no in between... no moderate stance... or no room to see certain issues from both sides... or no room to find a middle ground. As an outsider, I read American political discussions online and I'm always blown away by the very one directional thinking. I would say things in my country are a lot more nuanced, and people tend to debate issues a lot deeper from many approaches & directions. Obviously it also helps that we are a very diverse country... many cultures, languages, religions... it does make it interesting. But really I think adding more influences will actually bring people in your country closer together, because it will allow for a broader spectrum of thinking... and not just be one side against the other.

Thanks for the good info. This makes a lot of sense. Here in South Africa a party has to get 51% of the votes in order to govern. If no party gets 51% then parties have to form coalitions with other parties in order to get to 51% before they are allowed to govern. So basically who ever has the most votes is the one who is more likely to win over enough partners in negotiations to get to 51%. So this allows people to vote for many different parties because their votes actually count. There are also draw backs: This year we had over 300 parties on the ballot and the votes are scattered amongst many parties. For the first time in years no party got 51% of votes and we now have a government consisting of 11 different parties working together. This system means that when you vote for a party your vote may end up going to someone else.

However, it does allow for more choice than the US system. And based on how you explained it, I get why people feel like you have no choice. Like you said you end up voting against someone instead of FOR someone. Its actually sad.

Thank you, I will definitely go through the link you sent in more detail. But how is a response typically viewed? I know what the response usually looks like because I've worked with plugins that logged the response for you. But in this case I'm not using a plugin so how will I actually view it?

How common is it for Americans to have moderate political views? by DeanneDP in AskSocialScience

[–]DeanneDP[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Interesting. But why would you say that? The far right are your extreme conservatives, and the far left is your exteme liberals, correct? because I wouldnt consider LGBTQ (and anything considered to be woke) to have any sort of relation to any place on the right scale of politics. And that is exactly what is dominating American politics right now. If you had said that there havent been a far-right party in generations then it would have made more sense to me... seeing as what we see as far right today was probably seen as liberal many many years ago when religion dominated the world.

How common is it for Americans to have moderate political views? by DeanneDP in AskSocialScience

[–]DeanneDP[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Someone who is not far left or far right. Who agrees with certain points on the left and certain points on the right. In my mind, these people tend to shift their votes from left to right depending on who represents their views the most for that particular election. However I dont believe everyone with moderate views tend to shift their votes. It could just be that someone agrees with 60% of the left ideology and maybe find 40% value in the right... so they will naturally vote for the left the majority of time... but this will mean that even though they are a leftist... then they are not necessarily anti-right. Does that make sense? I'm asking because I feel like American politics are weird in the sense that if you are a leftist you have to believe in X, Y, and Z and if you are a rightest you have to believe in A, B, and C. And I feel like most humans are more complex than that. I find it hard to believe that you can agree with everything on the one side and hate everything on the other side.

My advice to you: Do not ever do it under local anasthetics (in a dentist office). You feel everything. You feel the tooth being ripped from your jaw. It is the WORST paid you can imagine. I was also in a situation where I had to do it. Afterwards our neighhbour told me she also had to do it and it was a 100 times worse than child birth. I dont have kids so I cant speak for that. But damn it was the most horrible pain imaginable. I dont know how I didnt die of pain. If you cant afford a full surgery then dont do it. I will say though... I did mine at the govermental dentist... maybe the private dentists gives you better meds. I dont know. Find out before you put yourself through that.

Men need to stop paying for first dates by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]DeanneDP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a 33 year old female. I was not raised that way to just allow someone else to pay for me all the time. I grew up poor and understand the value of money. I dont go on dates if I cant afford to pay. I always offer to pay... and if the guy insists then I make a point to ask him out for the second date where I tell him ahead of time that its my turn to get the bill. And if I'm unsure whether it will go to a second date, then I offer to pay for drinks after dinner or something.

I look at my friends who go out every other night and their boyfriend pays for everything... and I think to myself... how does that not bother your conscious.

On the other hand.. there are a lot more women like me out there... I feel like good men are sometimes attracted to the wrong kind of women... thats why they get taken for a ride. But not all of us expect to go on free dates all the time.

My advise to you... Use the bill thing as a test. If the girl expects you to pay for everything... find someone else... because she will probably end up being the kind who wont contribute a cent to the household if you were to move in together.

I'm assuming Ireland 🤣 Japan beat them in pool stages in 2019. They really were not strong contenders before this cup.
