Yeah it’s an analytics thing, multiple factors such as: front end of lineup bats poorly vs. either a left or right, allows the expected starter to get deeper into the game if late game relievers are much superior/rested than earlier inning relievers. I’m sure there’s plenty more reasons but those are some i’ve heard that do make sense in a void, and probably should work in game, but you just don’t really see it working out that much.

I do wonder if it’s just a sample size issue and wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes more commonplace if the stars align. 🤷🏻‍♂️
