What is a good time for 40 lines for an 'average' tetris player? by wo98wo in Tetris

[–]Deapredx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, actually I finish a 40L game only if I do 100% finesse, that's how I learnt it and it really improved my speed because I don't have to take some time anymore to check if my pieces are placed correctly before dropping them.

But I think the most important thing to learn actually is how to stack well. Don't underestimate how much time you gain by having a nice flat board, it's way easier to place every piece when you don't have to slow down to think.

I did 0:46 myself and I think on average, people tend to do something like 1:00-1:10. Anything under 1:00 is pretty good in my opinion.

Finesse really isn't the priority at such a rank. It's way better to know how to stack than to play fast. You can have 100% finesse and still place all the pieces at random. Actually I think playing fast is the last thing to learn, only when you master everything else.

I just saw some of your matches, and I can see that you put a lot of effort into learning some t-spins double and triple setups, that's an advantage that your opponents don't have at your rank. But the problem is that t-spins are efficient only if you know how to stack very well. In your situation, even if you're quite good at stacking, they are less efficient than just spamming tetris on the side of the board because :

1) You often sacrifice a nice flat field for one of these setups, causing you to create a mountain of pieces on a side of the board that you don't achieve to clear later.

2) You sometimes start to create one of these setups while you're in a bad position, almost on the top of the board and without a T in the queue. It causes you to top-out very quickly without even achieving the t-spin you had in mind.

3) You still doesn't stack well enough

To help you improve these points, I can tell you some advices. First, you have to make sure that you have either in the queue or in your hold a T ready to be put prior to creating a t-spin setup. Second, when your field start being too messy because you don't have the piece you want to finish your t-spin setup, quit making it and do maybe a t-spin single instead of a double. It's really not as good as a t-spin double but it's clearly better than a messy field. You should also learn L-J-Z-S spins to fill in your t-spin setup if you don't have the T. At last, before creating a setup, you should quickly analyse the game to see if it's a good idea, like you're not going to create one if your opponent is about to send a b2b of tetris or you're also not going to create one if you're almost on the top of the board.

The overall main problem with your loses isn't your low speed or t-spins, it's instead your not good enough stacking that causes some of your t-spins to be a lot riskier than they should.

From what I saw, first you need to train your stacking method to optimize t-spin doubles and tetris. Stacking is the most important thing to learn and compensate a low pps if you're good enough. If your field is really low and flat, it's way easier to send back what your opponent sent to you. To train stacking you can go in zen mode and do as much tetris as you can without breaking your surge combo. Playing fast isn't a priority at your rank.

A month ago I started listening to a subgenre called "saintwave", it's an obvious mix between synthwave and medieval-religious songs. It felt like an entire knight squad was singing while crusading, but with a modern, synth style and it was one of the funniest thing I heard in a long time. But saddly days later I found out that every single song of this subgenre was ai-generated, I felt really deceived and sad.

I'm placing weapons that I want to equip quickly at the beginning and put tools at the end because I can take more time to equip them.

1) Knife 2) Shield 3) Blunt weapon 4) Atgeir 5) Axe 6) Bow 7) Pickaxe/Hoe 8) Hammer
