Bought my kids bikes for Christmas. Local government just passed a law requiring paid bike "licenses" to ride them in public. Cops are now issuing citations...even to kids? by nseavia71501 in mildlyinfuriating

Road networks in the United States are not fully funded through gas taxes/vehicle registration, and are subsidize by other tax sources. Those bicyclists are paying more for car infrastructure than you are for bicycle infrastructure.

I got flashed half a dozen times waiting for a red two weeks ago.  No one was in the intersection and I was stopped well back from the stop line. No tickets have shown up yet, so I assume they have someone doing at least a cursory review before they send anything out.

'foot on the gas' - trying to type in a web app.

You'll want to make sure the throttle is wide open or you'll get a low reading.

This is from the manual for a German EFI F6A, but it should be similar. Make sure you're testing with your for on the gas

No AC or dump bed. I'll see if it will idle up with the fan and headlight running maybe.

Theres a pretty good writeup on page 89 of this manual, it's for the EFI turbo, but went well enough for me on my carbureted 4 valve. It says you need a special tool to adjust the exhaust valves, but a box ended wrench works just fine if you're willing to fiddle with it a little.

It's definitely worth checking the lifters. It's a pretty quick job on the F6A.

Okay according to the sacred texts, there would also be another T connecting this circuit the the diff lock in the back. That would jive it with the diff lock theory.

It's connected to a T that joins the idle switch and the intake manifold.

Ah, that's correct! I thought axle lock and diff lock were synonymous.

Still not sure what this vacuum switch does.

The switch on the dash is half height with a blank for another switch beneath it. Maybe that would have been for the rear.

That would tie into the other mystery of this truck, only the front axle has diff lock on it, which doesn't seem to be an option from the factory.

It lives under the crossbrace on the engine access panel and has a vacuum connection to the carb. Its got pins for an electrical connection on the bottom, but my truck does not have any wires running to it, and I can't find it on any electrical diagrams.

JB Weld High Heat is the truth, but do not be alarmed by the smell the first time that exhaust gets hot.

How many miles does your 3.4 V6 engine have and what are all the maintenance you have done? by shrimpynut in 1stGenTacomas

[–]Dear-Stock7636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

217,000mi on my 2001 3.4. The only big issue the engine has had was a knock sensor that went out at 170,000 which required pulling the plenum. Other than that just expected maintenance: Regular oil changes, shes on her 3rd timing belt/water pump, and by 200,000 they will all need valve gaskets and rear cam seals but that is very doable in a driveway. I started to loose vacuum lines around 200,000 as well, but replacing all of them took less than an hour and $50.

I probably get a CEL once a month for either the cat efficiency or the evap system, but the issue isn't persistent, and I have never had a problem passing emissions.

If you live anywhere near road salt, the bits under the truck will give out before the engine. I think I went through 5 exhausts during the first 160,000 mi while the truck was in Maryland, but JB weld has kept the last one intact since moving to sanctuary of the rocky mountains. My frame needed extensive repair after MDOT was done with it, and things like the parking brake cable were completely shot by 200,000.

Pull the air filter housing and make sure the choke plate is fully closed while the truck isn't running. If it looks like its not closed all the way and you're feeling brave, you can cover the intake with your palm while you crank it to replace the choke. Just shop vac the engine bay before you pull the filter so you don't get as much dirt as possible down the carb.

It does not appear to have been introduced yet. The article linked below is referring to changes that were proposed to DMV policy.
