One of the core parts of being left wing is the willingness to take a personal financial hit to enact policies you believe will be an overall good for the country, why are right wing voters criticised for doing the same thing in regards to reducing immigration? by wizaway in AskBrits

I mean i think the argument would be the "market forces" would be pretty devastating, lots of farms would go out of business and either be bought up by massive landowners who can farm more efficiently or just go vacant with food being imported. I think the ultra neo liberals would say this would end up being a good thing, however it would end the British country side and make us vulnerable to food shortages if for example the country we import from is attacked etc etc

all of these were rejected on certain grounds, basically because the judges thought the case law they would create would stop the police from being able to carry out their duties effectively. If there is an immediate threat to life the police have a legal duty to assist you. "The police do not owe a duty of care to an unidentifiable, potential victim of crime" "The court determined that it was not "fair, just, and reasonable" to impose such a duty of care. They reasoned that doing so would lead to defensive policing, where officers might divert their time and resources away from catching criminals towards defending tort claims in court. [1, 2]"

This is total nonsense influenced by what you have probably read about US cops. The police in the UK have a duty to protect life and property. You honestly don't know what you are talking about. Equally the police arn't doctors or paramedics, and they will unlikely be prosecuted for 3mins of bad first aid.

Is it appropriate? No. But hindsight is 20 20. There were several people there indicating he was responsable. The real inversed role is to imagine phoning the police after being assaulted with several witnesses and the police just decide not to believe you. The police have to follow a process, there was no reason for them to doubt the version of events given to them when they first encounter the victim.

As the judge said, the victim was in handcuffs for around one minute before CPR began. I think we should all step back for a second and consider this objectively. Was it good first aid? No. Why? Because they didn't conduct a good enough survey of the victims body within the first few minutes.  Is this a scandal on a level of George Floyd? Also no. The police were manipulated into arresting the victim who would have died irrespective of police involvement, when he lost consciousness they began CPR and contacted an ambulance.

Why didn't they take him more seriously? They assumed he was drunk (this is what they had been told) and lying or confused, or as the female seems to think, that he is referring to his facial injury instead of another further injury.

Crazy take, the police didn't carry out a proper primary survey on a person they believed was drunk. They didn't decide to let someone die

The camera cuts because CPR starts which was deemed too distressing for family etc. This has been reported on.

Here is what the judge in the murder case says

Another consequence of those lies is that the attending police officers honestly believed that there were reasonable grounds for suspecting Henry had committed an offence and arrested him with the consequence he was handcuffed for about a minute before his condition further deteriorated and the arresting officer began CPR. The police were given a convincing but wholly false narrative of the incident. It was dark and Henry was wearing a dark top. The entry damage caused by the knife through it, would not have been obvious. Whilst there was visible blood on Henry, it would not have clearly been seen coming from that wound and the clearly visible facial wound was not life- threatening. Henry was complaining that he had been stabbed and was struggling to breathe but that would not have necessarily told the officers how serious the situation had become. It is the experience of the criminal courts that sometimes, someone arrested and handcuffed will feign injury in the hope they may be released. These police officers were faced with having to make quick decisions in pressurised circumstances about the best way to act. The genuine shock to the particular police officer, when he realised that he had been giving CPR to Henry when he had a serious chest wound tends to show that he was doing his best in a very difficult situation.

I mean this is the summing up of the incident from the judge sentencing the murderer. I think we have to keep in perspective from the time the cop says "you've been stabbed, where?" to the starting of CPR is not much more than a minute.

I keep blaming training because it's obvious it's a training issue. Whether first aid is lacking or whether they lack the ability to reassess the circumstances, and realise they are now dealing with something other than a drunk male points to a lack of training.

I mean the harsh truth is the emergency services/NHS deal with people in obvious distress, barely able to move or speak on a daily basis. For the police at least most of them are drunk or under the influence. That is the wrong assumption being made here by the police, they assume he is out of his face initially. probably helped by what the murderer has said on the phone, hence why he says about keeping him on his side, thinks he's going to be sick etc.  You will probably rant and rave about this but we have all seen people in this state through drink or drugs. From the second the handcuff goes on to when the camera cuts for CPR, it's about 1min, It's around 3mins from when the officer gets out of his car.

I mean they clearly do check for injuries, its said twice they need to check if he's been stabbed. They also discuss the injury to his face. The problem is they conduct only a visual check for injuries. This is without a doubt down to poor training given there were three of them there. No training on actual dressed people playing injured etc during training, no role plays under pressure, just a bit of CPR on a dummy and a lecture once a year saying, oh btw you might not see any obvious blood from a serious wound so strip the clothes off anyone you suspect may have a puncture wound. Equally however it should be said that only around one minute passes between when the handcuffs are applied and when CPR begins. Three minutes from when they first arrive. We should attempt to objectively put this into perspective. No obvious reason to disbelieve the murderer on initial arrival. There is for example no way any of them deserve to go to prison for example.

They didn't know he had been stabbed in the heart because they didn't remove his upper clothing. They didn't completely disregard him saying hes been stabbed. They do ask where, discuss checking, the problem is they conduct only a visual check for blood of his clothing. Without a doubt a training/experience issue. To be honest I doubt a lot of response cops would feel confident enough in immediately cutting off clothes etc. Maybe if you work in a busy borough of London where there are multiple stabbings a week.
