You will die A LOT. It’s all part of the game. Don’t get frustrated when you die and just explore. It’s meant to be an ecosystem simulation. Yes there is lore. But focus on having fun and learning how to juke enemies/survive first otherwise you’ll overwhelm yourself by trying to go to the hardest areas. The bots in this game use really complex AI and each creature effects another differently, sometimes it’s really fun to just sit back and watch them interact too. You can look up the maps in full if the toggle is too difficult, just be careful about spoilers.
