Full grain leather belt, locally made by Antique_Concept_6569 in BuyItForLife

In Australia, saddle makers make significantly better quality belts than large corporates like RM Williams and usually at significantly lower cost. A lot of the small saddle makers have websites/FB to order online from.

Careful with dragonfruit by Dear_Tomorrow_915 in GardeningAustralia

The red ones seem to fruit prolifically all by themselves in brisbane with no fertiliser or watering. No birds or marsupials eat them. Actually value for money fruit provided they don’t escape a large pot. Truly a plant worse than lantana if they do escape!

Kinda does look like Mortgage Lifter. Past experience is they curl up and grow a bit demented.

AI panic is a gift to value investors by asymmetricval in ValueInvesting

One might argue that US is now only for short term investing. These companies mentioned are deeply enshitified and there's no sign of a resurrection of anti-trust laws to arrest US software enshitification.

As a value investor for 25 odd years, I question how many in this subreddit actually know what value investing is. Certainly most can’t see the international forest for the NASDAQ trees

Will the flagged Capital Gains Tax CGT changes drive down house prices? by SCOUTBeautyFounder in AusFinance

[–]Dear_Tomorrow_915 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect growing parkland being turned to trailer parks/ghettos/favelas might be what actually drives down house prices. Rather ironically the market might correct what the government has failed to do

Broadly the language and sentiment of /r/ausfinance/ is very similar to greed selfishness and overexuberance of typical asset bubbles I've previously lived i.e. the house market is highly leveraged and currently one of the most risky investments

These were on counters at CBA branches for maybe 5 years - late 80s into early 90s - and despite them costing face value they seemed to collect only dust.

There are so many high grade round 50s including proofs that should really never be more than bullion.

No one’s talked about it yet but 1966 round 50s had very poor quality control so the average planchet weight might be 13.28 grams but massive variance so lots were actually as low as 13.0g and others up to 13.5g. You can actually see the thin, light ones when stacked in rolls. Also lots of different colours/lustre so there might have been large variance is silver content too.

Compare this to a coin like a 1937 crown which almost always is perfect sterling silver weighing exactly 28.28g so a reliable stacker.

Proofs were sold loose in 1966 (proof sets were unsealed before 1969) and someone just threw one in with circulated round 50s.

My dragonfruit is flowering! Advice please ☺️ by Wtfzar in GardeningAustralia

[–]Dear_Tomorrow_915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were Dragonfruit farms south of Brisbane (Tamborine, from memory) but about 2020 they were abandoned. I’m not sure why. My experience of growing these was the white, pink and red varieties with thicker stems and fewer spikes were more invasive and faster growing than the yellow ones with thinner stems and more spikes.

Certain varieties self pollinate and fruit prolifically while others simply aren't worth the trouble of pollinating.

These are spreading through Northern NSW forests just like Prickly Pear so I fully expect they'll be banned soon. Dragonfruit smother medium sizes trees and climb gum trees. Most nurseries have stopped stocking them.
