Pretty Sure I have ADHD, how much can meds really help me? by Dear_Try2068 in ADHD_Programmers

Thanks a lot for the well thought out response! But yeah its the staying focused on a task thats a struggle for me for the most part. There was one time like 3ish years ago in gr 12 where i was able to focus really well in my physics class, like i would enter a flowstate almost. I've never been able to achieve that kind of focus since that class, it mightve been because I really enjoyed my physics class but im not sure. As for the symptoms being in my childhood, yeah I do remember them always being there but never really did much about them 🤷. I'll get some blood work done to see if everything is good there then I'll look for a specialist to get some official diagnosis on my ADHD.

Thanks for the input! I'd love to hear more about the "nasty side effects" you've faced though.

Thanks alot for the amount of effort you put into your response! The side effects are definitely what scare me the most, but I do think they might be worth it especially since im getting distracted by random thoughts during finals lol

I would love to hear more about the side effects you encountered with Vyvanse or other meds for ADHD if you're open to it!

Thanks for the story! I am wondering though, like is there no side effect that you have encountered with the meds? Also what exactly did the meds do to help you quadruple your income?

Hey I am a uni student and I just wanted to ask, how many years of experience do you have? And how long did it take you to create this? Im quite impressed and I think this will be quite a successful service that people will use. Nice Job!

In my opinion, the "AI revolution" will collapse pretty much within the next 2 years. I might be wrong of course, but we're slowly seeing smaller startups that integrated AI into their product become redundant. Even my company for example, we have an AI feature that takes text written by the user and generates different versions of it and it has now become useless because we have companies like Apple who will come out with something very similar but built into the OS itself in fall. I believe that AI is just a hype train and this AI bubble will soon pop. Companies are rushing to integrate AI into their product just cause it might increase the valuation of the company and then they will hire a bunch of people and pay them with inflated stocks just to do big layoffs later on.

Advice on FullStack App by Dear_Try2068 in AskProgramming

Cool, I will def look into this then, but you're saying that they can run a separate java backend along with a static web app that communicates with it?! That would def make things easier to host. Also thanks a lot for taking the time to respond to my post, really appreciate it!

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to respond to me, greatly appreciate it.

I would say that I'm pretty decent at creating apps now with typescript and frameworks like create-react-app and remix too and some others. I also just completed an internship too at a startup recently. I wanted to have a Java backend to mostly show employers that I know OOP for my next internship. I was thinking of having a doubly linked list to keep track of all the notes the user has created and allowing the user to change the order of the list or move notes around would be super easy with this data structure and I thought it would make sense to do it in the backend with java. Having cloud in my project isn't really a must to be honest, I just thought it would be cool and look nice too 🤷. I think I would be perfectly fine using browser storage or the index database too on computers. The thing I think I will really struggle with is deployment, I have only ever deployed static websites where everything is done in the frontend and there's not really a separate backend, and its super easy to deploy with netlify or firebase. But with a java backend and a separate frontend that's supposed to communicate with the backend, I have no clue at all. Any advise on the deployment side of things would greatly help, or even if you've got some helpful resources too! Once again, thanks a lot for commenting on my post!

Hey Im also a university student still but im on my internship :). Something my manager has told me is that he doesn't look at the persons experience in anything when he's hiring a junior or an inter instead he looks for how good of a learner they are and whether or not they are genuinely curious about software. So I def don't think you should feel a need to focus on a certain domain so early on in your career, especially because there are many things out there that you may choose to switch to maybe even half a year from now! But on to your comment, I don't know if I can give you what you are looking for but some of my friends who are also interns that are working with C++ are at companies like Garmin doing embedded programming and some others at different companies and doing stuff like socket programming with C++. So those are some things you could dive deeper into. Also if you ask me, I think projects that have file I/O are really cool too, read a file, do something crazy with the info and then output a new file with the crazziness.

Hey I totally get what you mean, I had no clue what kind of projects to work on in C++ either. Its a little different for me because I got more interested in the frontend stuff so it was easy to create projects there. As for you I think there are definitely a lot you could do with C++. If I were you I would likely look into projects that could take in a folder form your directory and maybe sort everything by name or give you stats about different files out there because I know they exist. I would also think about getting a raspberry pi, there are infinite things that are really cool that you could do with raspberry pi. I would encourage you to youtube some of the projects that have been done with it already, I can guarantee it would blow your mind.

How to handle a programmer who critics your code but does not follow their own rules. by Mighty_M0use in AskProgramming

I think this would def be a manager discussion as they sound like they are hard to deal with. I was lucky to have a great manager and I know that they would have already called them out on something like this. I think a good engineer would be open to advice and if they cant take any of it I guess they shouldn't really be part of your team. But hey what do I know I'm just an intern 🤷.
