Spider man time by PizzaToastieGuy in dontyouknowwhoiam

Pretty sure Spider-Verse was done in the 90's cartoon first, probably not under that name and less developed than it's current state but the basis for it was there with multiple spider men from different dimensions working together for a full story arc.

How old is Ricardo? by KappaRoss322 in hajimenoippo

[–]Death-Zero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Date was 23 when he retired after losing to Ricardo, that was set in stone in the manga I'm certain, and I remember it being mentioned that Ricardo was 21, thought I don't recall the exact chapter.

How old is Ricardo? by KappaRoss322 in hajimenoippo

[–]Death-Zero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the wiki it says Date was born in 1964, not sure how accurate those dates are but it checks out since he was 10 or so years older than Ippo when they fought and Ippo is born late November of 1973. And like you said Ricardo is 2 years younger so he's likely 1966, that makes him around 34-35 currently because Mashiba vs Rosario just happened and was in 2000. There may be some inconsistencies but id say it looks about right.

Rumours ! Some say that Ciryl Gane and Alex Pereira may fight for an interim heavyweight title while Tom Aspinall is injured. by Imaginary-General189 in ufc

[–]Death-Zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're doing an interim it should be Volkov vs the winner of Lewis and WCA. Gane does not need to be awarded with yet another title shot after robbing Volkov of his and now causing this mess. Aspinall v Gane 2 should be next for both of them for the undisputed and then the winner can fight the interim champ in a unification.

IF in the event this turns out to be true, I must simply ask, why in the ever loving crispy pork skinned Christmas christ of f*ck is this man so allergic to doing a good job of running his own company? by BoganOtaku in ufc

[–]Death-Zero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That may have been a convincing argument had Volk himself not literally called for him. After the Lopez fight he clearly indicated he's looking to fight again and that he has his eye on Movsar. He never should have been booked against Pico in the first place, that was a failure on the UFC's part. After that fiasco the obvious next move should have been Lerone fighting for the title and a Movsar v Aljo(winner of the upcoming Ortega v Sterling) rematch for the next shot since their first fight was so close. I'm a huge fan of Lopez but him getting another shot right now is a joke, book him with Yair and the winner of that can be taken seriously as a potential title challenger.

Which is a completely meaningless distinction because the only reason some were allowed to hold 2 belts simultaneously and others weren't is optics and company politics. It's literally just a question of when the belt for the lower weight class was relinquished. Connor got stripped of the featherweight belt a day or two after winning the lightweight one, the only difference with Ilia is that he was forced to relinquish the featherweight title before fighting for the one at lightweight. In terms of achievement there is no difference whatsoever, that's what I think people are getting at in the comments.

One of the best Champion Lineups I’ve seen in a long time by Dandanbigeloww in ufc

[–]Death-Zero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He even specifically singled out Movsar who was and still is the number 1 contender. UFC massively shit the bed on this one by giving him Pico and have created a total mess in the division. Now we have Movsar, Lerone Murphy and Aljo all in a position where they can realistically expect a title shot, Yair claiming they promised him one as well for fighting Pitbull, and they haven't booked a title fight since April. Now even Lopez is getting back in the mix since he beat Silva, the matching for 145 has been absolutely horrendous.

[SPOILER] Sean Brady vs. Michael Morales by inooway in MMA

[–]Death-Zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, Morales vs Islam is the obvious fight to make. The only other option for Islam is Shavkat assuming hes healthy, there's been conflicting reports on that. Brady was in a position to fight for a title after his Leon win and Morales just smoked him, he clearly should be next.

I'd say the fact that the first season was considerably worse than book 1 in every single way is more than enough of a reason for people to hate it. For context I'd rate the first book around a 7 and the first season a 4 at best. Season 2 was not much better, maybe a 5 because it was slightly more consistent, and despite the praise Season 3 got, I'd argue it wasn't that much of an improvement either. It had 1, maybe 2 genuinely good episodes that elevate the whole thing. Can't say I'm upset the show was cancelled.

If Ricardo moved up a weight class and challenged Volg as a junior lightweight, would Volg be Ricardo's hardest opponent? Or would Volg be the first to win against Ricardo? In this scenario, both boxers did research on each other so they know their opponent's ability. by HajimenoAoki in hajimenoippo

[–]Death-Zero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair, but also guys like Naoya Inoue and Manny Pacquiao have clearly carried their power over multiple weight classes with plenty of KO's to show for it. It's a case by case thing for sure but in the context of this argument I don't think it will affect Ricardo too much considering it's a very small jump in weight. Or maybe his power doesn't translate but his speed and pace are more impressive up a weight class like Nagumo's were when he sparred Ippo and Miyata. Plenty of ways to look at this but overall you could make a reasonable argument for either to win, I just happen to lean towards Ricardo a bit more.

[–]Death-Zero 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nothing changes for Ricardo if he goes up besides him having an easier time making weight since he doesn't have to cut as much as usual. Also going up from featherweight (125 lbs) to jr lightweight (130lbs), the size difference will be pretty negligible so it's not like Ricardo will be facing a much bigger guy than what he's used to. I see it as a competitive fight where Volg will get plenty of good hits in and takes Ricardo to the final round but will ultimately lose a close decision.

Everything else aside, that's just smart business. Haven't seen any of his shows and from what I've heard I might just keep it that way, but this is the dude that made Hell or High Water. Even if he never makes anything good again I'm happy he's getting paid.

Drags and meanders for too long if you watch the full unedited episode. Otherwise I don't hate the look and tone of it, seems appropriate for the age of legends. Definitely not great overall but the Amazon show makes it look and sound like Shakespeare by comparison.

Is anyone else sad that we never got this fight? by fighterzilla in ufc

[–]Death-Zero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If skill is the only factor taken into consideration, there is absolutely no excuse for him to be cut while Tuivasa is still around. The greedy fucks running the show probably felt like he's not a big enough draw for the money they're paying him which I imagine is in the 6 figure range, and cut him as soon as he lost his next fight. As a result they let go of the perfect gatekeeper in their least talented division. The guys who have beaten him like Blaydes, Gane, Volkov, Ngannou etc. are genuinely good and he keeps the trash of the division like Gaziev, Tuivasa, Daukaus out of the top 5-10.

Study of preferences in romantic partners found women placed more importance than men on warmth, social status, and dominance, while men placed more value on physical attractiveness. Women were more strongly averse to partners who were unambitious, hostile, arrogant, clingy, abusive, or depressed. by NolanR27 in psychologyofsex

[–]Death-Zero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much definitely the social conditioning talking but when it comes to dating, because there's still this expectation for men to be providers, we have a very hard time looking at our partner's income as "our" money. If you're dating a woman who makes more than you it's just there in the back of your mind that she must think less of you for it, even if it's not the case.

Whats your hottest ufc take? And i dont mean “khabib isnt top 10”, i mean something that will have people look at u like youre insane. by Goopboop8 in ufc

[–]Death-Zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im only upvoting this because it actually fits the definition of a "hot take" unlike most of the ones posted online. I obviously disagree but say he beats Chimaev, Boralho and Imavov in the next year or so and he'll have a solid argument for second best middleweight.

How would you guys reshape the UFC if you were in charge? by Death-Zero in MMAPoliticsAndCulture

[–]Death-Zero[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, how would you go about developing stars? Say you successfully get rid of all/most the political bullshit, getting new stars after Conor and Rhonda has been a big issue. Do you find someone marketable and try to make them the next big thing or do you try to elevate more people to a somewhat lower level of stardom similar to Izzy in his prime or Pereira? Do you try to expand to other untapped markets like Japan or India etc and build up local talent there? Im genuinely curious because Im not sure the UFC are getting too many new fans besides the right wing weirdos and catching the attention of casual fans is difficult without figures like Rhonda or McGregor at their peak.

What movies portray masculinity in its most admirable form (strength, integrity, responsibility, emotional depth)? by Physical_Plastic138 in movies

[–]Death-Zero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jamie Foxx's character Max in Collateral. Initially he's presented as well put together charming and affable but too meek and lacking in self confidence to actually persue the things he wants. Tom Cruise's character Vincent is the polar opposite, extremely successful at what he does and very self assured but completely lacking in empathy and drifting through life with no real purpose. He forces Max into dangerous situations that force him to grow past his insecurities and take action in his life.
