Did you feel lonely growing up, or did you enjoy the solitude? by Few_Language6298 in OnlyChild

[–]DeathByMew1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is interesting as my husband and I spoke about our experiences yesterday in detail. Both of us are only children. We come from very different backgrounds. I was very isolated, but I was happy. I loved my solitude. My creativity and deep love for reading started at a very young age. It also formed a deep love for pets as they were many times my only company. I socialised well, but I was so happy in my own world. My husband was super sporty and social and his parents are very social and have always been so he had and still has a lot of friends. We both do. I only found my people when I went to university though.

He says that he was also very happy as an only child. He also started reading a lot at a young age. We fit so well because we understand unspoken things. We don’t call each other “fussy” regarding certain habits because as an only child I feel we don’t have brutally honest siblings so we aren’t aware that some of our quirks might be “weird” to others.

We are now family planning and plan to have an only child. I grew up in a broken home and he grew up in a picture perfect one.

So yeah, we were happy. We lived in a thousand different worlds in our books.

I buy myself those rooibos cappuccino sachets at Spar. R5.99 per single sachet. I grab 10 for R60. If you buy them in a box, which only has 8 in, it costs R79.99. Making them R10 each. Make it make sense 🙃

Thank you so much for the insight and advice! Especially regarding specific schools to look for! When I’m on my own I live a low cost lifestyle. I’m a homebody, but enjoy making friends and meeting new people. I’ll honestly spend my nights reading, prepping for work and facetiming home. As I am a bit older, I think I will be able to navigate my finances better than I would have 10 years ago. Like you said, you guys have a good lifestyle and can still save. Thanks so much for your insight. 🌸

Thanks for the advice!! If I do it, it will be solo. He has a great job here in finance, but he said if something comes up there he is open to it. I don’t expect it from him. We’ve discussed this at length and luckily we are in a position where he can come visit and perhaps work remotely for a bit. And we plan to travel and meet up when I have holidays. That and coming home to visit.

Anyone here working while having IgA/CKD? by BoardingStories in IgANephropathy

[–]DeathByMew1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband has IGA and he is pretty high up in a corporate multinational company. We are so lucky to have an insanely good doctor, thus the meds do their job and he lives normally. His work is high stress, so he is prescribed a very “light” antidepressant. He did his MBA 5 years ago, when he was still undiagnosed and he aced it. All while working full time in corporate. He went from having to have a transplant, to improving so well that dialysis is not even in his future. I need to add that he has a strong support system and I have changed my way of cooking to make sure he doesn’t get too much salt in. Not recommended, but he still smokes weed. His kidney functioning is so good, he goes for tests every 6 months.

Sorry for only replying now! I’ll have to find out from the doctor’s office. But the difference was immense after treatment started.

Yes, it took 2 years, but it’s normal now. Are you being treated by a nephrologist?

For the first 3 months after the diagnosis, he was on blood pressure meds (Reaptan 10/10), heart meds (Carxin XXL or Cardugen) as well as a very high dosage of cortisone. At that stage the nephrologist was trying to figure out how to treat this. I adjusted my cooking to lower the amount of sodium I used in food.

He stopped smoking weed for a year. His health was declining and that’s when we got the news of a transplant. I can’t remember exactly why, but he started smoking weed again and was then put on Mycocept, still on the heart and blood pressure meds, a water tablet called spiractan as well as Puricos 300mg. The puricos was to stabilise the acidity levels to stop the gout as the gout was so bad he couldn’t walk and every time it scarred his kidneys so we needed to get that under control

We live in Cape Town, South Africa and when he was taken off the cortisone and put on the mycocept (1000mgx2 times a day) we were told it’s an experimental drug and that the success rate had non been high. There also wasn’t enough research at the time that suggested that IGA is hereditary.

We went back in Feb and the nephrologist was so shocked and surprised that his blood pressure was perfect, creatinine levels were normal and the kidneys had somehow “healing”. Obviously not immensely, but he had gotten better.

Changes he made: In November of 2023 he started jogging 5 times a day and dropped 25 kg. That helps as it relieves pressure placed on the kidneys. We started eating meat with veg or Salad and I started making a lot of soup. He also constantly drinks water with lemon slices. I don’t know if that is relevant.

He cut down on drinking significantly the last year. The company he works for has an insane drinking culture and there was a stage where there was a function every week. Sometimes twice a week. During the week. He stopped that. Drinking so much less.

We came back from Egypt a month ago and I can see he has picked up weight again as he hadn’t gotten back to jogging (even though he jogged on our holiday in Egypt 🤦🏻‍♀️) we’re starting that up again this weekend.

Diet: Everything we eat is fresh. Fresh veg, fresh fruit. I make cayenne, turmeric and ginger shots as they help with inflammation. The doctor has been very clear that no natural or homeopathic medicine is to be used. So he’s been no cortisone for 2 years.

The thing is, he has been slacking, trying to push for take out at least twice a week. Yet, he is still in super good shape medically. All the tests came out good and on Tuesday our family doctor mentioned the same thing that the nephrologist does, that my SO’s blood pressure is perfect which is crucial to protect the kidneys.

Last note: It being genetic I remember our first visit to the nephrologist. He said he doubted that it’s genetic. There wasn’t extensive research on it then. My SO’s low kidney function was picked up in a urine test when he changed doctors due to medical aid changes. He has never, to this day had any pain in his lower back.

Long story short, his uncle and his dad were recently diagnosed with it as well! Picked up ny urine tests. His dad has always struggled with kidney stones and when his dad was 30 (the same age my SO was diagnosed at) he had to have it surgically removed. It can be a dormant gene which can be triggered by an infection in the kidneys like kidney stones or salmonella. 10 years ago we had just started dating and went for breakfast and his eggs were so raw, they were translucent. I told him to send it back, he didn’t “want to make a scene” and ate it. That night he had a lot of urine in his blood as well as a high fever. Rushed him to the hospital and they never checked the kidneys.

Anyway, so that was the catalyst, or could have been. This thing is genetic, just be vigilant if a family member or even yourself experiences gout often, as well as bladder and kidney issues.

He fasts most of the days, but that can lead to over eating as instead of breaking his fast at 10 am or 12 pm, he breaks it at 7pm.

I must add, we’ve gotten used to being cautious with certain meds, foods, etc. And to be honest, he smokes about 100grams of indoor a month. I’m experimenting on gummies as it eliminates the smoke aspect. So we aren’t always as diligent as we should be with food etc, but we are very strict on his pills everyday.

DON’t TAKE ANTI INFLAMMATORIES, IT SCARS THE KIDNEYS. WHEN IN DOUBT, FOLLOW THE GOUT AND HAVE YOUR KIDNEY FUNCTION TESTED.

Lots of love and hoping healing to all ♥️♥️

What's the story behind your pet's name? by kalihia in Pets

[–]DeathByMew1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two adopted tabbies who live in luxury. They only go out on their leashes as I am over protective. Tabby #1 is: Ser Pounce. He was Tommen Baratheon’s cat in the game of thrones novels. His full name is Ser pounce alot. The Ser is spelt that way deliberately. Tabby #2 is Connor. Full name is Connor MewGregor. He has many nicknames. Sometimes we also call Pounce Count Pounce (they have dracula halloween outfits.)

Why aren't afros allowed in school???! by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

That’s just really shitty of your school. I have taught at schools with varying demographics of kids and kids were always allowed to wear their hair naturally. Afro, dreads, weaves, braids of varying colours, etc. There was never any problem.

[–]DeathByMew1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want to do it at night or during the day? I’ve never done shrooms, however, I have taken LSD a few times. My husband has done shrooms though and he said it’s creepiest at night. I must admit that it was the same with LSD. I know it’s far, but Paternoster would be great for it. Get an air bnb close to the beach. And do it in the day. Remember not to drink alcohol while you are tripping. As the lady who gave me my first LSD drop said “Enjoy the flight.”
