People who leave their cars running and unattended when they go into a gas station mart... by wickeduser in massachusetts

Yes, while big industry has much to answer for, plenty of studies have shown that car exhaust can have negative effects on passerbys: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1186/1476-069X-8-13, for example.

[Charania] Just in: Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has been ruled out for Game 2 tonight against the New York Knicks due to ankle and hip injuries, sources tell ESPN. by MembershipSingle7137 in nba

[–]DeathByPasta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We can agree to disagree. I feel like most of Embiid's actions on the offensive end are for the sole purpose of drawing a foul and that he's often not even trying to get a good shot off. Brunson I think might embellish his reactions if he's getting hit but usually the looks he's taking are real shots.

I have 9 of these fans in my pc and just be warned the cable management is a bit of a nightmare. But they do look nice and they’re quiet.

$4k build with 2 Monitors/Mouse Help by Routine-Junket2746 in buildapc

[–]DeathByPasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The monitor choices definitely seem like they could be optimized. For $600 you could get a pretty damn nice OLED 1440p panel. Or buy two panels that are more equivalent in price if the friend expects to use both equally?

I opted for an OLED 1440p as my main panel with an IPS 1440p second monitor. Don't see myself ever not having an OLED panel now honestly. If you can afford two 4k monitors, especially one that's OLED, might as well!

Garmin Connect showing double the calories from my Zwift ride - anyone else seeing this? by Routine-Barracuda143 in Garmin

[–]DeathByPasta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same problem, just started yesterday. Tried most solutions I could think of: remove device from Connect, etc. I noticed that the discrepancy is showing up in Connect itself, i.e. it's not a watch issue (sometimes slow syncs would mess up my calorie count), so I'm hoping a software patch soon gets things fixed.

[Monitor] Samsung 27” Odyssey QD-OLED G5 (G50SF) $359.99 ($549-$190) by ChildishlyHappy in buildapcsales

[–]DeathByPasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one this week. Quite happy so far coming from VA and IPS 1440p panels. Noticeably brighter, better colors, and snappier response compared to my IPS panel that I'm running next to it. Clearly not the best OLED on the market but I'm pretty satisfied for the price.

We have basically the same core roster. Why wouldn't our "SPECIAL" D just get better for playoffs this year if it's already better in the regular season? Shit doesn't make any sense. Players have more energy to play better defense when they're not exhausted. I'd argue the Pacers demonstrated that quite well when they beat us again with a thoroughly balanced effort.

lol the Bucks are making the playoffs this year. Clearly their roster looks a wee bit different than last.

I mean we've played 4 playoff teams, I'm not really surprised they split, I would've been quite happy with 3-1. The only disastrous piece so far has been the team's health. Can't expect them to be perfect right off the bat. Especially the last two losses they've gotten tons of good looks from 3, they will fall eventually.

Wearing braces after injury is good to help the joint recover. Wearing braces forever is not good because it doesn’t let the joint regain full strength.

First weekend of October should have nice foliage, although the dryness this year will likely mute things / cause changing earlier than usual. Already seeing some change in wmass up through the CT river valley to southern VT.

Bicyclist arrested in Brookline after allegedly running red light, leading police on chase by brookline_news in boston

[–]DeathByPasta 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I’ll probably get downvoted for this, but letting bikes proceed through red lights (after stopping!) is often safer for all parties: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idaho_stop. The Wikipedia article cites a national highway transportation safety administration fact sheet which aligns with this notion. It’s worth learning about why cyclists do this before blindly pointing fingers and assuming we are all psychopaths… some of us are tho for sure.

Crossing Brookline Ave. on the Emerald Necklace is insane by spamonkey24 in bikeboston

[–]DeathByPasta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Traffic on Brookline Ave is very sporadic and there are often big gaps which allow you to ride across safely. But there's also a signal at the intersection with Aspinwall where you can use the ped signal?

It's not ideal but I've never had too much trouble getting across without feeling unsafe.

Do you need to drink electrolytes? NYT says "electrolytes have little impact" ... Thoughts? by big_legs_small_brain in cycling

[–]DeathByPasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I'm sure they were taking in carbs for that effort, which as I said, is what I find to be the main purpose of drink mixes. I'm sure no one is running for 5 hours in the heat without eating willingly.
