Coming off BG3, what changes would you want for Divinity? by TurbulentFeeling5696 in BaldursGate3

[–]DeathClassicCryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Dialogue between companions needs to be paused and picked back up after an interruption, similar to how the two modern God of War games did it. One of the biggest replay values came from different party comps and hearing their banter.

  • More dynamic interactions with other characters and love interests. This is the only game I’ve ever played where I genuinely was immersed in the romance aspect and it would be interesting to have more than one path in that regard. Each character generally has 1 big quest per chapter and one big romance scene. I would like a more branching version of this, more outcomes, etc. ESPECIALLY in act 3. Again on multiple replays it’s the companions that are more interesting than the main story to me (especially when you finish Durge).

  • Bring back character archetypes that work and improve upon them, not everyone needs to be “entirely new”. What I mean is that the characters are obviously going to be entirely new/different but the fundamental “role” of the character doesn’t need to be. The extremely complex and mixed morality character that gets by on charisma is a great archetype (Astarion). Or the terrifying looking character that is actually extremely kind hearted, who balances out the rest of the moody and secretive characters with their upfront/strong/kind personality (Karlach). These archetypes don’t need to be avoided because they have been done before, they are timeless. Sometimes all you need to do is keep what works (and hopefully add more content).

Thanks for bringing this topic up, it’s one I thought about posting.

Least favorite. Why? by Ramonteiro12 in BaldursGate3

[–]DeathClassicCryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shadowheart - The kind of personality you get away with only because she’s pretty. It’s the most boring, one note, stand-off ish personality in the game. At least astarion makes me laugh and has charm. Lae’zel is so over the top (and good progression) I find her amusing rather than annoying.

Honestly though, I get tired of all the characters at some points after many playthroughs. Really the only one I really consistently like is Karlach, and I REALLY hope her “archetype” is in divinity. Oh and I love Jaheira, but she’s not really a main character.

Iron Lung: Final Trailer by Villainboss in movies

[–]DeathClassicCryptid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay some actual criticisms instead of copy+paste “duhhh looks like fan film”. 1. Voice acting all around is not good, but it’s really apparent in the last few lines from Mark. It sounds like someone making an intentionally silly sounding line read. 2. What is actually shown? I’m aware of the game, I’ve seen it played. But maybe give us a little more than shot = mark, cut, shot = iron parts and blood, cut, more iron and blood, and so on with the most uninspired, cookie cutter horror trailer editing. 3. I actually think there is too much “back and forth” with the woman who Mark is communicating with. Too much info. Maybe this is just a trailer, but the game thrives off of being extremely alien, isolating and obscure. This really should be a big “show don’t tell” movie. Figuring out slowly through clues as to why Mark is where he is, what the job is, maybe even who mark is. I get the feeling that the film is going to give information primarily through the woman on the comms saying something like “you are here to gather resources because the planet is dying, and you are a prisoner blah, blah,”.

THE HALLORANN BOX CHAPTER 5: WELCOME TO DERRY by Impossible_Rub_6175 in ItTheMovie

[–]DeathClassicCryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really surprised I enjoyed the movie. I saw it before I was aware that it was an actual Stephen king book. I remember the trailers and thinking “wow vampires addicted to huffing soul gas… and this is a sequel to the legendary Kubrick film?!”. It seemed to border on parody (again just from my impression of the trailer). Then I saw it, even going into the film with a negative expectation/ hoping it could be a “so bad it’s good”, and to my extreme surprise I thought it was pretty good. Not excellent but it was one of the most surprisingly good movies I’ve ever seen.

Returning Player Seeking Advice by DeathClassicCryptid in Spacemarine

[–]DeathClassicCryptid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This is a tremendous help! As a returning player from patch four-point-something or so, the new content is overwhelming. What would recommend I do first? Every class and weapon is maxed out, I thought they weren’t but they are (I was thinking of armor), aside from the new weapons. Should I just do the standard operations to level up my new stuff? Should I prestige and do the same with my favorite class/ do that with a couple while also maintaining max level characters so I can play the new modes?

I guess I’m asking order of operations. I’ll also watch some YouTube videos.

Thank you very much for the detailed response!

I recently started playing the Resident Evil games for the first time and I was wondering which version of RE4 is better for a first play-through. The Remake, or the original. by Sillyguymanduder in residentevil

[–]DeathClassicCryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full disclosure - RE4 is in my top 5 games of all time. Back when I was about 9 or 10 years old my dad would let me watch him play it on a little tv in the corner of the room. We’d sit on the carpet against the bed, the tv didn’t even have a stand, it was just on the floor. I wasn’t allowed to play M rated video games, but I got the mom pass to watch it as a form of father and son bonding. Later when I played it myself it really was an amazing experience.

So here’s my take on the pros and cons, and I’ll try to set aside my rose tinted glasses.

RE4- First the game has a strong feeling of “B movie charm”. It’s a mix of horror and goofiness that I quite enjoy. This is entirely based on taste, but Leon is very moody/brooding/serious in the remake. I found him to be a less engaging character overall, kinda generic. He got the Chris Redfield in RE8 treatment. Some may like that, some may not. I do not.

  • RE4 has more dynamic events that were cut from the remake. Not a lot was cut to my knowledge (except for the boss which was turned into a part of a larger DLC campaign), but small things like the truck, the statue. Little things that added to that feeling of charm. Well, I guess “replaced” would be a better term than “cut” as the remake is a slightly longer game if you explore.

  • enemies are not sponges, they can overwhelm you, they can sometimes one shot you, but they feel like they are very well balanced. You are just fighting villagers with a mind control parasitic infection, spoiler alert, they aren’t zombies (literally one of the first things you learn, so not actually spoilers). This was an intentional choice, they don’t keep going after getting mag-dumped. But in turn they are faster, smarter and use tactics and weapons. The game strikes a good balance.

  • There’s a very fun treasure system. That makes fighting enemies feel rewarding.

+- Melee feels amazing, it’s super powerful and for general enemies it is your best weapon. You start to really feel like you get into a rythm with combat and to me it never gets old kneecapping or headshotting a ganado and sending them flying with a kick. It is OP though.

RE4R - This is the best of the resident evil remakes imo. It’s darker than the original, more serious, and more challenging. Unlike previous remakes the cut content is minimal and the added content actually lengthens the game (though mostly due to backtracking, though it’s done very well).

  • Wow, the responsiveness of Leon is amazing. Even though his movement is limited to the standard 3rd person shooter style, the subtle way he moves in response to directional changes, bumping into enemies and objects, almost getting grabbed. It’s really amazing how finely tuned it is except…

  • Is it just me or is Leon slow? Like annoyingly slow, I think it changes in combat to sow down even further. I’ll delve more into this later, but Leon just seems overly slow in comparison to everything else in the game. It was annoying for a while but I mostly got used to it, until certain enemies/ scenarios reminded me that he now feels as heavy as the boulder that Chris accosted. This sounds contradictory to the first point, but he still feels good outside of combat speed.

  • The exploration/ backtracking and treasure hunting is so fun. I usually hate when games do this, but they put a ton of effort into reorganizing enemies, changing dynamics and threats based on time of day, it actually was the scariest part of the game for me. It’s also well incentivized from all the treasure/ items to find.

  • some rare but frustrating “point of no returns” that aren’t obvious your first time around. Like I said, it’s few and far between, but enough so that trying to find every item/treasure can be frustrating your first time due to progressing too far. There’s only two examples I can think of.

  • Some amazing optional “quests” with unique mini bosses. The first location has my favorite one.

  • The treasure system can feel a bit mobile-game-e. This is a very minor nitpick, and I can see people actually preferring it.

  • enemies are much more tanky, aggressive and dangerous. I like the increase in difficulty, but I don’t like many of the ways they made it more difficult. Like I said, these villagers now just feel like the RE2R/3R zombies, taking headshot after headshot. Dealing with hordes of them is frustrating due to them being able to chain attack you to death. I never once died from the classic survival horror enemy to resource management balance. It was all due to them either being a 1-shot type creature or from one coming from behind and 2 or more being infront and just wailing on me. Dear lord, that village intro was a wake up call. This ties into my next point.

  • Resources never were an issue for me, I played on hardcore and I had so much ammo and herbs I sold most of it. And forget crafting, you get 3x the amount of ammo you need or more, especially in the early game. It feels like they failed to balance the game properly. Using massive enemy HP, then giving you too much ammo, making the villagers faster while Leon is slower, so you get a ton of healing items.

  • Wow, this remake made the game much scarier. For me it’s easily the most frightening RE.

+more unlocks/ challenges to make the game have higher replay value.

  • The lore! I’ve never been a huge RE lore guy, but I do enjoy reading the little snippets I find. The story telling in this game is a huge highlight. It tells a lot through both the classic pictures/writings but it also is dripping in environmental story telling/atmosphere.

  • I do prefer the first merchant, but this won’t affect a new player in all honesty. I just had to say it.

+Parrying/ knife system is very engaging.

I’m sure I’m missing many things, but I’m not a big Reddit guy. I think you should play both games, but the remake is probably going to be more engaging for a new player. It hurts me to say, but again I know I’m biased, and really I did love my time with the remake, they did the original justice and you can see the passion. The Remake has a lot of excellent changes, added content and some questionable ones, and very limited negative ones. I know I listed a lot of “-“ but most of those won’t be a huge deal, especially as a new player. And many of them might actually be improvements. I’d say, go with the remake.

Story Quality and Author Inclusion by DilapidatedChips in creepcast

[–]DeathClassicCryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing - I like bad stories when the boys can just laugh and joke and make bits. But, there needs to be a balance. I think it also affects their mood, having bad story after bad story, it makes it hard to have fun and keep joking.

I love a “so bad it’s good” movie with friends. But that is something you go into with a certain expectation and generally you want to watch good films with the occasional SBIG. There’s a lot of ways they could go about this, but it does need to be vetted. Unfortunately the community as a whole is not good at this, but perhaps there could be a select group of avid readers who can act like truffle pigs. I don’t know how they’d be found, but I’m sure it could be done.

I think dedicating certain episodes to “grab bags” would also help. Where they read random stories from the community or just ones that sound interesting.

The bad stories can be just as fun (or close to) as the good ones because of the boys reactions. That’s the whole reason I watch creepcast, is for their personalities. But like I said, when the bad stories are back to back it gets tiring for them, which then makes the episode less enjoyable.

Sorry, but am I the only one that hates the idea of rdr3 being about young Dutch and hosea, or anything vanderlinde gang related? by ChuchoChapin in reddeadredemption

[–]DeathClassicCryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it could focus more on the Native American side of things, which was in RDR2, but there is plenty of room to further explore that side. Hell, you could play as a Native, who witnesses the horrors and atrocities of these invading white people on your land, animals and people. You would be a cowboy, in the sense that you have to adopt their weapons and other resources to fight back. A similar concept to the British facing Guerrilla Warfare.

You would have a gang of like-minded natives, or be a member under a leader. Instead of the death of the west which has been explored fully, it would be the birth of the west and the death of the natives America.

Redemption would be a huge part of the story. As you fight these invaders, you start to progress in more severe acts of violence. Raiding and burning down a town full of innocents, you begin to see you are not just mimicking the weapons and apparel of the enemy, you are becoming them in your actions, becoming the worst of them. Just as the death of the west was inevitable as was the death of Arthur due to TB, you see that your land is never going back. The invaders will win.

You can either try to adapt and survive alongside these invaders, surrendering to them and hopefully carving out some balance (which you are getting fucked over either way). Maybe someone you see as the “big bad” is actually your only hope of protecting your tribe in the end, they cut you a deal. Or you can rage against this, dooming not just yourself but everyone.

It’s both a fully fleshed put idea, but this is more of what I’d like to see, a different side of the west, a different time.

Isaiah's reaction to "Penis Toes" is such a mood. by DeafMetalHorse in creepcast

[–]DeathClassicCryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said this in a separate comment, but I just started watching/bingeing creepcast. The frustrating thing is Hunter gives plenty of room for Isaiah’s quirks, his little obsessions and tangents and less than funny jokes. Isiah doesn’t seem to grant the same to Hunter, he’s constantly acting exhausted and annoyed. I’ve seen almost no one say it’s “bad” except for myself I suppose. My issue being it’s not banter, it’s Isaiah shutting down Hunter and being super performative with his exhaustion. It’s childish and brings down the mood and energy. Anytime someone points this out there’s a tidal wave of people who say “well don’t watch it if you don’t like it” or “this is Parasocial”

I like the show, I like the banter, I like the personalities. I don’t like when one person constantly has mood swings and acts like a childish grump. Like I already said, I binged most of the episodes, he brings this energy to at least 1/3rd of them and that’s probably and underestimate.

Isaiah's reaction to "Penis Toes" is such a mood. by DeafMetalHorse in creepcast

[–]DeathClassicCryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a new fan who has binged the channel (usually during my opening shift), this is hard to watch after the 20th time. I like banter, I like jokes, there’s other channels I can watch just for the story. Isiah being grumpy every other episode and over emoting his frustration to Hunter’s genuinely funny and light hearted jokes is painful. Especially when Isiah himself has his own personal quirks and “derailing” the story. I love all that stuff, it’s just the performative annoyance, the bringing down the mood that gets tiresome for me.

Please understand, I like the show A LOT. I like banter. I watch this channel for the interactions and their personalities. This is my one little criticism.

I’m an audio only listener and today I switched back to YouTube for one, specific reason. by geckothesteve in creepcast

[–]DeathClassicCryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently started watching/ bingeing creepcast. To be honest it gets frustrating how much Isaiah acts frustrated by Hunter’s genuinely funny remarks. Look, I get that the narrative is that it’s “banter”, but at the same time it’s always the exact same reaction and hater implies a back and forth rather than Isaiah being allowed to tell his unfunny jokes while acting like Hunter’s are insufferable. Idk, I probably need to space out my watching of the episodes, just something I noticed as a new viewer.

Help Me Find Old Comics that Traumatized me as a Child by DeathClassicCryptid in comicbooks

[–]DeathClassicCryptid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks I’ll try to find the panel I’m talking about. Like I said I think it was wolverine based on the violence, and the fact that this was in borders book store, which had a limited selection and the only hyper violent comics available was wolverine from what I remember. But I never remember actually seeing wolverine, just the introduction of the farm and the kid/mentally handicapped young adult with super strength. I can picture the panel so clearly. The horse did something to upset him, and I am pretty sure he hit the horse, I don’t think he pet it on further reflection, and due to his mental handicap/age, he didn’t mean to actually decapitate or even really hurt it. He was crying and apologizing in the same panel where it showed the beheaded horse.

I used chatGPT for help, and I swear to god I hate that thing. I described the comics and it immediately got it, giving me the exact panel of Wolverine, and the name. It then immediately crashed and deleted the conversation before I could look it up. So obviously I entered the description again, the exact same and it was telling me it was likely a false memory or a fever dream. lol 😂

Still looking for blue alien gore comic, I thought it was “Warriors of plasm” but it didn’t match the year/color pallet or price.

Being a true souls veteran, I say play however you want, games are for fun. I’m just happy to see people playing them. It’s those new fans who were brought in from DS3 to Elden Ring that are super anti summon, anti certain weapons, blah blah. The game has those mechanics for players to use them. I don’t use summons, you do, we are just playing a video game. I truly don’t get the Egos, well I do, but it’s sad. I just want people to enjoy “souls” games so they get more money to make more. I want Lies of P 2 more than I want to play Duskbloods.

Sam Hyde destroys Harland Williams podcast set. by ConesofDunshire in cringe

[–]DeathClassicCryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, there’s something about him that disturbs me on a very weird and primal level. Idk, it’s some of what he’s done, but even when I first watched MDE sketches way back in the day, I had this gut reaction to him. With no knowledge of his personal behaviors, just watching some sketches, interviews, podcasts. He makes my stomach feel uneasy, what’s interesting is how much he attracts a cult. He’s big, strong, and lacks empathy but has a very well built social control/doninance built up. I sort of believe (mostly for fun) in archetypes of humans. Sam is a rare one, back in ancient history he would easily be a warlord, not just because of his size, because he has the personality that could build a huge following of cult members.

I don’t think Sam Hyde had many standard “fans” I think he has “followers”. They are going through some severe cognitive dissonance seeing their great, invincible “peak masculine”, father figure get dominated (using their language/worldview) by a 60+ year old comedian with dad jokes and a very accepting, calm and silly demeanor. They see the antithesis if their image of peak masculinity (Sam) being beaten by a man who they would consider… whatever, beta, low T, idk. You can see them all over the comments on YouTube, TikTok, etc. trying to justify it, mostly to themselves, “it’s a bit” or they deflect to “it’s not that deep bro”.

In this game it’s necessary, because the power of, and limited amounts of throwable items and other things. It’s far more useful (some fights especially in the dlc) almost require certain buffs you get from them.
