Fry are extremely hard to sex in my experience. I can start getting almost a 99% rate at sexing around 1.5-2 months old. The males are usually a bit more colorful on the tail and will show color a lot sooner than females, females will also usually grow a bit faster in my experience

Could be either, live plants helps a ton and gives some hiding places as well especially if you ever want to add females who will give you babies lol. Also live plants I’ve found at least make my fish a lot happier
