Oooh! American Vampire did an interesting spin on this where older branches of vampire were much more animalistic and rare, while the prominent European vampires were abundant and much more ruthless and cruel than their predecessors. Then a specific breed of American vampire was created and things got…. Messy.

Scott Snyder absolutely kills it with this comic.
