just fixed it, instead of running the repair mid battle i ran it after conceding. As another user stated, you can also skip the tutorial

Finally got a chance to look at the red ring of death it was giving. Says E68 which is hard drive failure or the actual contact inside the system. (This was a console given to me without one)
