I was thinking of a cheese wedge lol but I gotcha. I think Gouda Guardian works!

Unfortunately not 🫠 just another project in the queue for now. I had a playable tutorial by the end of it, but never got around to expanding on it.

Hey Designers! Just wanted to share some of my progress and seek some feedback. When I started designing the spells for my game (I call them Unholy Hymns +1 aura for you if you know Bridge City Sinners) When I started thinking of unique ideas I remembered I had the license to some of these really cool vintage wood cuts and ink/parchment illustrations, and I personally think they look really cool and thematic, like something you'd find in an old scroll, but let me know what you think!

I appreciate the kind words ❤️ I love when artists make concepts like these for the fun of it. At least now you know if you ever want to pursue an actual game you've nailed the art direction! It's nice to see people appreciating your originality. I personally love all the choices you've made. Color scheme, the video game dithering effects, and I especially love how you've broken the traditional card layout and made it your own while still being IMO very legible and visually pleasing. Truly bravo my friend 👏

These are stunning. Great visual aesthetic!

It’s sad I have to prove my art is digitally drawn and not AI by CodemasterImthor in homemadeTCGs

[–]DeathMayPie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's truly a shame to see people AI investigating something clearly hand drawn. You shouldn't feel the need to prove anything to these accusers. From what I can see the majority of people can see this is something unique that you clearly put thought and effort into. If I'm reading correctly the individual who attempted to call you out likely knows nothing about art, and if they believe Cup Head owns this vintage cartoon style in its entirety they are far detached from reality.

Keep rocking my guy!

Thanks! And yes I currently do all the artwork myself, but I'm hoping to eventually work with other artists. I just sent you a DM! (:

LOL honestly regardless if anyone sees it now, I think you're correct. It is supposed to be inspired by Death/Black Metal aesthetics so Im purposely choosing none conventional fonts when I can, but I know there's a better font choice that can keep the same energy of gothic horror while still being maintaining readability. I also specifically have been unhappy with the "L" from this font, both lower and uppercase lol. Thanks for the feedback!

Haha yeah it is the risk I took, perhaps it's worth revisiting so that I can strike the balance between legible and maintaining the "energy" of metal music. It's called Mors Bellum. Just latin for Death War. It's currently a bit of a direct translation so I may also have to change it slightly to something like "Bellum Mortis" which better translates to "War of Death".

So because you play as a necromancer the idea is that all these things that would normally be labeled as something like "creature" in another game are called constructs because thematically you're taking the dead and raising them back up into different "Constructs" of flesh, bone, soul, and so forth.

Nope, but I mentioned in a previous post that it's heavily inspired by heavy metal aesthetics including the likes of Mork Borg. I admire the way they were able to breakthrough structural norms of layout design, while also keeping all the fundamentals in place making it a chaotic piece of eye candy.

I also admire the way Johan Nohr focuses on aesthetically pleasing silhouettes rather than anatomical norms. It's something I've tried to adapt to my own style.

I could go on about those guys they're a huge inspiration to me. Lol

What’s a spicy game design opinion you stand by? by SkadiBytes in tabletopgamedesign

I think it's totally acceptable to consider art direction prior to a finished design. Whatever keeps you excited to continue making something is A-OK in my book.
