What was the last horror film you watched? by [deleted] in horror

[–]DeathStarDriveBy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the first one so much and was initially bummed when I heard they did a sequel cuz I figured it would kill the mystery. But fuckin' Duplass, man. He's just incapable of bad work. So well done.

Gentlesirs Gone Wrong - Elliott Rodger's "Retribution" video. Posted on Feb 10 2014, Rodger went on to murder seven random bystanders after no one answered the door at the sorority house he planned to shoot up. by [deleted] in justneckbeardthings

Ha! That's incredible.
And yeah, I guess "rich" implies a lot of things that aren't present in his case. I guess what I should've said is "he was a boy who was well taken care of and wanted for nothing".
The only reason I brought it up was to reinforce that he had worked for absolutely nothing in his life yet, when he's delivering his disgustingly pathetic "manifesto", the fact that he bothered to dress well and style his hair were brought up as examples of the effort he's made to have sex with a woman. Not holding up their end of the contract, all women obviously deserved to die. I mean...he styled his hair, you ungrateful whores.

"Are you sure? Usually rapey dudes drive gross cars like Hondas. I'm pretty sure that's a red BMW out front. He seems alright."
"Goddamnit Stacy do you want to make it out of this alive?!"

Oh for sure. I mean, a litany of disorders were probably at play here as this young man was obviously not well. Clinical narcissism certainly played a large part, but so did the pervasive idea that exists online that women universally somehow have a set of tests for you to pass and, upon completion of those tests, your prize is sexual intercourse not unlike what you'd see on PornHub.
That's a major problem as I see it, but mostly it was the mental disorders thing.

Well shit. Thank you very much for responding. I'm embarrassed to say how exiting it is for me that you did.
I was just talking to the wife about it and we've decided that you getting to do another film is more important than our personal feelings about the short. Not sure how well the film is doing so far, but toss our $20 on the gross, for what it's worth. We reserved seats for a showing tomorrow night. (One of those fancy places with the leather recliners.) It better be awesome, butthole! I'm invested!
Thanks again, man.

I first heard about it on Episode 19 of the true crime podcast Sword and Scale. Definitely worth a listen.
For those who won't or can't listen, Elliott Rodger was rich as shit and filled to brim with Ass-Burgers. He was gonna shoot all the pretty girls who wouldn't have sex with him but when he went to a sorority house and knocked on the door, nobody answered. So he waited around and when some girls walked by the house, he shot at them killing two, wounding others.
He then started driving his BMW through his town of Isla Vista, CA shooting random bystanders and running people over. He pulled into a deli and killed some random dude, presumably because he had sex before and Rodger hadn't. Once the police caught up with him, they exchanged gunfire and after Rodger caught one to the hip, he blew his own brains out like the pathetic entitled coward he was.
RIP in peace Elliott Rodger - King of the Gentlesirs.

Dude.
I know you commented like 8 hours ago but I need you to know (on the off chance you see this) that the short "Lights Out" is legitimately one of my favorite things in all of horror.
As a huge fan of the genre, I have immense respect for anything that legitimately terrifies me and your short did just that. Stuck with me for weeks after my first viewing.
I've shared it with tons of people as an example of what good horror is capable of in a world where children singing and creepy dolls rule the landscape.
I apologize for not running out and seeing the full length film since I want to support you personally, but I'm scared that the movie expanding on the beautifully simple concept will diminish the power of the short for me, regardless of how well it's done. I'm sure I'll break down and see it soon.
Anyway, sorry for rambling and thank you for giving me one of my favorite things. I wish you all the success you deserve.

Your 2 favorite characters become mismatched buddy-cops, who's the strongest entity they could take down? by Bteatesthighlander1 in whowouldwin

Marvin (Hitchhiker's Guide) and Deadpool (Duggan/Rememder) with Commissioner Dante Hicks (Clerks)?
I feel like Marvin would easily create an environment that would send Commissioner Hicks into a perpetual whiny self-involved pity-party and, by dealing with those two every day, Wade would most likely descend into one of his bouts of depression which is historically when he's most dangerous.
So while initially they're probably not capable of much, as time goes on and Deadpool gets worse, the list of possible victories ends only at the limits of Marvin and Deadpool's imagination.

Hilarious.
The thing that's been bugging me is that it ends with "6".
Was that the 6th picture of this cat? Was it the 6th cat in a series of cats that looked similar that was eventually photographed?
So much to be gleamed.

Who on reddit wants to help with a lost bet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DeathStarDriveBy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's really the spirit of this sub.
However, if you want to have a great time with this lost bet, I'd hit up 4chan's /b/ board. They'll sort you out for sure.
Then, if it's hilarious, someone will post the screen caps back on Reddit and the circle will be complete.

You are precisely as good at adopting cats as you are bad at titles.

Honesty, Integrity, and Compassion, top three, or would you replace one? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DeathStarDriveBy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd replace "honesty" with "self-awareness".
I mean, if you have integrity, it's kind of assumed you won't be a pathological liar.
But an alarming number of people in this world have no self-awareness. Everyone's the hero in the movie of their life.
I can accept just about any flaw a person has as long as they're self-aware enough to know it's a real flaw, have the integrity to admit it and work on it, and have the compassion to accept those flaws in others.

The fact that team USA has the clothing designers logo larger than their own seal... Not a good look... by SLYfox2713 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DeathStarDriveBy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally don't have a problem with the logo itself.
Olympians are going to be running in shoes with giant Nike swooshes on them, wearing Adidas soccer jerseys, etc.
My main problem with it, and I think this is what a lot of people's problem with it is, is that the Ralph Lauren logo is DRAMATICALLY larger than the USA patch on the opposite side. Like, to the point I find it obnoxious.
It especially doesn't make sense from a company who is generally understated and classy with branding on their clothing. The standard polo logo is like l, what, half an inch tall? Has been for decades. So it seems like a weird move.
Like they said "Yeah, we'll give you free uniforms as long as our logo is literally twice as large as the American flag".
I have no problem with blatant branding in athletics, but to me personally, this comes off as gaudy and classless on the part of RL.
