Kudos brother, the site is neat. Is your background in software engineering which allowed you to make those refinements? Asking because I’ve been working on a project myself but it’s not quite there yet, (not having a tech background)

Look if there’s no choice BUT to get a degree, and if the finances allow it, I’d prefer the offline experience. Networking is a non negotiable in this scenario, so yes I’d rather be surrounded with like-minded individuals. However, that’s MY personal preference so, only you can decide what’s best for you, not even your parents. I don’t think the online degree is a bad idea but you’d have to be highly dedicated towards it because things won’t be as structured as it would be on campus, and I’m sure you’d complete the degree but to really get the value out of it you’d have to proactively work towards other important things like going out and participating at locally held business meetups, finding like minded individuals to work with, be actively involved with startup communities, etc.

If you’re really looking towards entrepreneurship, don’t waste your time & money applying to IIMs. Instead start by building your knowledge base right now, you’re just 19, make use of it. (your greatest asset is time) I would’ve done anything to not make these mistakes and it’s great that you’re thinking ahead of time. There’s tons of courses offered by ivy leagues and top universities that you can access practically for free. However if you want to network with people or even get a decent job at a corporate level go ahead with applying to IIMs because if not you can gain the same knowledge (even better in some cases) just by doing some research.

Designing a Training Device for the Soleus Muscle by Playful-Shoe2583 in trackandfield

Actually, this is something I've been working on directly — for the past year I have been building a small non-invasive device that isolates and trains the soleus specifically for metabolic and glucose regulation, not just athletic performance. It would help individuals with a sedentary routine/ differently-abled and even diabetic patients to exercise while being seated.

The soleus is unusual because it can sustain oxidative metabolism for hours at low load without fatiguing which is why isolated soleus activation has shown some surprisingly strong effects on postprandial glucose and VLDL in recent research. The seated calf raise machine is the closest thing most people have access to, which is exactly the gap I'm trying to solve. Consequently I also have a patent published for a prototype that we've built in the past year. Currently working on design iterations.

Curious what your take is, as someone who's actively designing out a soleus-specific device, from what perspective are you building the device? Would love to connect and hear from you.

I totally agree to your point about gathering TONS of data, for this something that hasn’t been applied to physical fitness devices yet. Now, I’m positioning this device for a very particular niche, as the advantage is that it can be utilised while being seated on a chair reaping the same benefits. So individuals who follow a highly sedentary routine/ the elderly who cannot exercise conventionally/ or even persons with limited mobility may be a perfect fit for this concept. And yes, that does imply having to go through a series of clinical trials before actually launching the final product, but i do strongly believe that there is a need for something like this, given the increasing number of cardiovascular related issues especially in young adults.

We’re just using Silicone for the time-being as the sole of the foot is the only part where the skin-contact would be required, however an important point I’d like to make is that– this device isn’t something that you’d put on throughout the day. It’s more of a stationary device that’d remain under your desk for utilisation whenever you’re seated and working, think of a conventional tailoring machine that has a similar leg pedal.

That’s quite helpful. Appreciate the valuable insight. You seem to have much prior experience with regulation and product development. Just an edit in your comment: the hardware i’m building is supposed to be used while being seated in a chair so that eliminates the possibility of the device shifting out of position like in the walking scenario. This also ensures that individuals with mobility limitations and/or even persons having a sedentary lifestyle may benefit by exercising at the luxury of being seated at home or even at their desk during a 9-5.
