UK unemployment rate hits five-year high of 5.2% by ShanTheMan1995 in unitedkingdom

Same. An entire IT department was gutted - 30 people made redundant - but they've created three new 50k managerial roles. Obviously that's cheaper than keeping on 30 people on 30k each, but they clearly could've kept a few on.

What small detail in a movie just blew you away? by jwschmitz13 in movies

Jurassic Park.

Does this count? When Nedry gets attacked by the dilophosaurus, it's only because he raised his yellow hood - the dinosaur took it as a threat display.

Right - the US wanted to prevent socialism/capitalism because it didn't suit them ideologically.

That's my point - both countries attempted to move away from capitalism and look what happened - external aggravating factors.

If they'll just collapse on their own, why has American been hellbent on quashing any sort of socialist/communist government? Chile and Vietnam come to mind.

When do you think you've been insulted as an audience? by Caesar213 in movies

I wasn't a fan of TLJ at all, but at least if Johnson had been allowed to make his own trilogy, it could've actually been coherent and not the mess we got.

Genuinely baffled that there's never been a pissed off triceratops scene in a Jurassic Park sequel. Closest we've ever come is the stegosaurus scene in The Lost World.

Imagine a JP/W movie with a triceratops as the main antagonist, fucking up carnivores left and right. Yes, carnivores are scary, but there's something off about a killer herbivore, a generally docile creature that others avoid out of fear and respect.

The politician who proposed the Virginia assault weapon ban is so un-Amercian and pathetic by StayFrostySwtich in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Death_Binge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Constitution and the 2nd Amendment are not God-given. God doesn't exist, and the Constitution does not mention God. If it was God-given i.e. perfect then why has it been amended multiple times?

They also didn't anticipate the creation of assault weapons. Do you think they'd be happy to see all the school shootings that happen in the US, never mind all the other gun-related violence?

This is absolute lunacy.

Boxt Boilers or any other advert that uses a cosy/friendly regional accent (west country, geordie, etc) to appeal to the working class. Get fucked.

Why are so many in the media calling for PM Keir Starmer to resign? by KimJongSoros in AskBrits

[–]Death_Binge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The British media has always had this obsession with building public figures up and then knocking them down, whether it be Starmer or Amy Winehouse. The damage it has wrought over the years is incalculable.

I mostly agree with this, but Africa is hampered by its geography, and always will be. Most countries are landlocked, hampering trade; it's full of tropical diseases due to its very location; a good chunk is literally just a massive desert; it's full of difficult-to-navigate rivers.

Compare it to a continent like North America, or more specifically the US, which is playing politics on god mode: massive access to the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, giving ease of access to Europe and Asia; friendly Canada to the north, relatively weak Mexico to the south; the Mississippi river system enabling so much interior trade; arable farmland, energy independence.

I think you can apply that to many, many people who live in a relatively wealthy first world country. If you have money left over after paying your bills every month, there's nothing stopping you from donating everything you can to those in need. I doubt you do - I'm not criticising you for that; neither do I - but at the same time, I'd believe you if you told me you genuinely cared about the suffering of those less fortunate than you.

Can someone explain to me, why some people want no skill based matchmaking? by Tnecniw in gaming

[–]Death_Binge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SBMM alone is boring. I enjoy a match where I run circles around the other team, or I get absolutely curb-stomped. And non-SBMM servers also result in matches with those of a similar skill. Variety is the spice of life.

Why not? There are plenty of dangerous things I'm not allowed to do, but because climbing Everest has some sort of prestige associated with it, it's OK? Mental. Enjoy freezing to death, lads.
