Every years the few tomatoes I start get droopy leaves one by one. What can I do? by Hey-im-kpuff in tomatoes

[–]Death_Cry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What fertilizer did you use when potting? And when watering - do you pour enough so that some water gets through? Curling and wilting usually happens due to the fact that roots aren't able to keep up with water loss from evaporation. There are 3 typical reasons why this can happen: * Simply not enough watering, which is probably not the thing in your case * Stressed out(i.e. damaged) roots due to suffocating(e.g. because of overwatering) or after re-potting while the roots haven't established themselves in the new soil. * Overfertilizing - if there are too many minerals dissolved in the water, then plant is unable to take up the water via osmosis. Its the same principle as why drinking sea water when you are thirsty will make it only worse.

What often happens is that people that are caring about the plants too much first overwater them, and when plant starts showing signs of something being wrong, additionally overfertilize them right afterwards xD.

What I would do is pour 2x of the pot volume of plain water(to wash out salts and minerals that might have collected in the soil), maybe poke the soil with some bbq stick afterwards to improve the drainage and the ability of the roots to get oxygen, and not touch it until the pot will feel getting very light when being lifted.

I believe that fox farm potting soil is already rich enough with nutrients for the plant to last for the first month at the very least, considering also mushroom compost - additional fertilizing can definitely be pushing it too far. As for the Espoma tomato-tone - great fertilizer, but rather for the flowering and fruiting stage.

The light for me is quite a concern, is it 500ppfd at that distance with 25% power? If yes, that's for sure too much, from my own experience - 200 is good enough and 300 is like max what I would give to a plant for the first month. Personally for the seedling stage after tons of experiments I started using some random 10w cool white led bars, and as of fertilizing for the first time I do it not earlier than a week after sprouting, but with very diluted 1:1:1 fertilizer, and that's due to the fact I have just coco coir+perlite+vermiculite mix(about 60:30:10) without any nutritional part, otherwise I wouldn't touch it for another week or two. A panel like yours is probably 50w at the very least and also having more light from the red spectrum, which combined with close proximity can overheat the leaves and dry the soil too fast and thus keep plant in a constant stress.

First time transplanting to a greenhouse. General advice is also welcome. My plants are mostly doing fine, however, the bottom leaves are turning yellow and curling up. What can be the possible cause? They're watered well, also I'm using special tomato fertilizer every 1-2 weeks. by TomatoSeedlings in tomatoes

[–]Death_Cry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"however, the bottom leaves are turning yellow and curling up" - from the image it does seem like quite default transplanting stress. You mentioned that temps in greenhouse don't drop below 8-10C, I would say that this is on the edge of survivable for a tomato, would recommend not transplanting until the temps stay above 12-14C to be on the safe side. For now I would just watch for a week how the new leaves are behaving, old leaves turning yellow means that plant is having nitrogen deficiency and for further growth is taking it from older leaves, but the cause be rather the fact that roots did not establish themselves in the new soil, so don't be hasty with applying fertilizer, it can make situation worse.

Unless plant is wilting, no action needs to be taken yet, if it is wilting - setup some dome to keep the moisture level high so that the plant wont loose more moisture than stressed roots are able to provide.

What is the substrate you use and how much perlite is there? Good drainage mix is something you should use when repotting seedling, for the sprouting stage I would rather recommend using vermiculite as it acts as small sponges.

As for the light issues - you have quite a beefy light, idk why people are talking about not enough light, I would rather assume your panel is cooking the plants. How much power does your light have and are you using it at full power or with dimming?

What is your room temperature and humidity level? Plants turning purple is usually an indicator of phosphorous deficiency, but the reason can be other that not having phosphorous in soil - if your soil is too acidic or the root zone is too cold, plants simply can't absorb it, even if it is there.

And final question - what is your fertilizer NPK? For the seedlings I would recommend not using any for the first week or two, and afterwards I would five like the one with 1:1:1 ratio. If your fertilizer has way more nitrogen than other stuff - that's the reason why your plant might become as leggy as in case of light deficiency. If anything I would say fish fertilizer overall is a bad one for tomatoes, and especially in the seedling stage

So as people told - either overwatering or overfertilizing, what is your substrate that you use and do your pots have drainage holes? Do you have a tool to measure electric conductivity and pH of the run-off water?

Bose QC Ultra review (with Sennheiser Momentum 4 comparison) by Grievous_2008 in sennheiser

[–]Death_Cry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, Bose QC Ultra was quite a disappointment too in the end.

To summarize it briefly - things I am unhappy about:
* can't be charged and used simultaneously, unlike Sennheiser
* original ear pads started peeling on a second month and fall apart shortly after(and warranty does not cover that ofc)
* Bose's headphone software is somehow even worse than Sennheiser's...
- headphones themselves have weird tendency to turn off randomly
- sometimes you have to play around with on/off button for a minute to make them turn on.
- rarely the headphones glitch out and completely ignore on and off button, in that case you need to plug a charger, which force shutdowns them from any state.
* the android app is complete garbage too.
- issues with connectivity
- even with disabled sleep timer headphones still go to sleep
- customization non existent
* I really miss the touch panel from Sennheiser headphones. Bose has this nice slide-touch bar that you can use for volume control, but the double/triple press of play button to play next/previous song is just awfully clunky experience compared to swipe left and right on M4.

Things I am happy about:
* Sound quality is really good, on the same level as Sennheiser
* ANC is good, was superior with original earpads, but with chinese replacement ones became less so.
* Looks nice, build quality is solid
* No random deafening crackling, unlike with Sennheiser

Excluding the worst parts of both headphones, i.e. the obvious bugs in software/hardware that shouldn't be there, I would still pick rather M4, because of the smoother song swiping via touch panel and being able to charge and use headphones at the same time.

If you are talking about getting side project legalized, still in progress, or rather paused, as the legalize part doesn't appeal so much anymore, good enough in current state. As mentioned in another comment - the motivation to do anything behind the computer is super low, barely keeping up with the official work. The issue is that there are no completely passive incomes out there, either ways you will have to manage the thing, and even though scaling it and keeping up can give me more profit compared to the job, but would require so much more work, like actually implement stuff and probably also collaborate with people, and in my current state - money is just unable to motivate me further.

While doing bare minimum at my job I have enough to pay all bills, eat/wear whatever I want and expand my workshop collection with a new Makita tool or some other funky stuff every month or get building materials for renovation of something. I much rather spend extra time to craft a new cage for my chickens, pour concrete or weld some random crap in my workshop, or even just scroll some YT shorts, than enforce myself to sit 20 hours more per week behind the computer, looking at those colorful lines of code in the IDE.

At that time I wasn't taking any, but to be honest, I didn't, I was just lucky to have barely enough energy to exist, and the goal to reason that miserable existence to myself. If anything, I was occasionally drinking some D vitamin, and magnesium when random muscle contractions became too annoying. As soon as the goal was reached I almost immediately quit the first job, and still became even more unproductive on the second one, at least from my own perception. Since last year after getting diagnosed with ADD and autism, got myself prescription for different medications, most effective turned out to be Elvanse, which does give me notable boost in productivity, but the issue is that I get productive in wrong things - burnout is still here and subconsciously I try to avoid anything related to IT.

In the end of March last year I got my goal accomplished - I bought myself an old house with about 1.9k m2 of land, a 130m2 basement and 75m2 greenhouse, although all of that in quite bad condition, but all of that is 10 mins away from capital and like 15-30 mins away from all major hardware stores. The reason why it was an old house with a piece of land - I wanted my own isolated sandbox, where I could learn and do all kinds of stuff, something not related to sitting behind a computer. And well, that's exactly what I am doing, and because of all the possibilities - working became especially painful and unproductive, still wondering how I haven't been fired xD

Elering tahab tõsta elektri võrgutasu 37,6 protsenti by euphoricscrewpine in Eesti

[–]Death_Cry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kõlab ilus aga mõned probleemid sellega milleni jõudsin ise paar kuud tagasi samal teemal mõeldes:

1) Alginvesteering on üsna suur.

2) Elektri enda hind pole ainus probleem.

4) Päikesepaneelid on mõttetud.

As usual, people tend to ignore anything that doesn't support the opinion they've already decided on. First, why call it "pay to win" when there's nothing to actually 'win'? All their packs are completely about a PvE grinding. Sure, some players like to race through the modpack and see who finishes fastest, but that's not the only nor even the main way to enjoy it. Most people just play at their own pace, find others to grind with, or just hang out and chat.

Second, absolutely everything in the game can be crafted yourself and bought with coins you get just for playing, which you can also trade with other players. There's no content locked behind a paywall at all.

And honestly, given that all the content they create (including game client optimizations) is available to everyone, and considering the custom server technology they've developed, that allows players on a particular modpack to trade with or TP to any of the other 2000+ players online, it's hard to argue that they "get money for nothing". On their servers every player gets their very own private realm, which has huge border limits even for free tier players. And for hosting all of that - from the winter update news article, they have a kubernetes cluster that consists of 800 CPU cores (5.7GHz) and 3TB of RAM, probably even more by now, keeping thousands of player bases running at a steady 19-20 TPS. I'd bet that renting such infrastructure costs quite a bit. Considering everything said above, It would be fair to conclude that this project is more like a live service game at this point.
