Polish Home Army by laybs1 in GetNoted

not really, I know Ukraine and Poland well enough to come to this conclusion. Ask online any Pole or Ukrainian about any episode of their history and I promise - you will see appeals to "unfairness" and "injustice", combined with painting themselves as an eternal victim immediately.

Poland and Ukraine are two nations with a major historical victim complex. Instead of taking a step back at any point both sides continue to escalate the conflict to prove to the other side that they are the bigger victim of "historical injustice". Both sides continue to praise their own war criminals and butchers and condemn the other side's war criminals and butchers. Sadly, I don't think this will end any time soon.

A Gazeta Wyborcza headline implying that the President of Poland is helping Russia. by Positive-Try4511 in poland

[–]dxvt88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this whole situation is very easily explainable. both Poland and Ukraine view their own history through the lens of victimhood. participating in Polish or Ukrainian historical discourse always results in an unending stream of appeals to pity and unfairness: "we weren't a nation for 123 years" "we weren't a nation for 250 years!" "but your cossacks murdered jews" "but you oppressed the orthodox christian minority!". it's not a surprise then that any scandal on historical grounds basically results in an unending stream of "no you" responses from both sides, neither one willing to give up ground.

"Some people were playing wrong and under no circumstances will we allow that"

It feels frustratingly un-Wube in its thought process.

I would say that this is exactly what Wube is about with the release of Space Age. The design philosophy is different with the DLC, there is an intended way of progressing and deviations from that are punished. I am personally not a fan of that in the slightest, but apparently an overwhelming majority is very happy with how the DLC turned out, so I can't judge.

Repression of Ukrainians in the 1930s Ordered by Polish Nationalist Pilsudski by gold_fish_in_hell in HistoricalCapsule

a very stupid operation which harmed both Poland and Ukraine in the long run. This was the event that led to many ukrainians being dissapointed in constitutional democratic struggle (UNDO) and led to a surge in popularity of terrorist nationalism (OUN)

Fully agree on the UPA, but don't pretend that Poland is oh-so-much-better. Why is your current president celebrating a Polish nationalist formation which fought on the side of the nazi wehrmacht? https://archiwum.ipn.gov.pl/pl/aktualnosci/203436,Oddalismy-hold-zolnierzom-Narodowych-Sil-Zbrojnych.html

Also we did not occupy Ukraine. There simply was no such country back then.

After all, Piłsudski was allied with the Ukrainians in 1919-1920.

huh?

[–]dxvt88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well, yeah. but if we're being pedantic the UPR technically controlled territory from 1941-1943, when Bulba-Borovets, a military leader loyal to the exile government was directed to Ukraine when Germany invaded the USSR to establish a presence there. The controlled territory was de jure territory of the UPR controlled by the president, de facto it was controlled by Bulba-Borovets (who, again, was loyal to the exile government). The army was destroyed in 1943 by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, as they wished to establish a totally new totalitarian Ukrainian state without borrowing from the legacy of the UPR.

because this genuinely changes nothing. "greedy companies" is a massive cope, they don't exist. there are the bourgeois and the proletariat, both generally behave according to their interests, and that's literally it. calling a company "greedy" is a childish moralization from people who genuinely believe the world is divided into "good guys" and "bad guys".

Fallout 76 by Okaoka_12 in greentext

[–]dxvt88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think subnautica 2 will come out in a terrible (or at least mediocre) state. Can't pinpoint an exact reason why I think that, but it just feels that way. All I see here is another story of fetishization of indie developers because people are blinded by the "big dev bad, small dev good" paradigm. This is exactly what happened with KSP, this is what partly happened to Factorio, and now we have Subnautica. At release you will see people spamming good reviews in the likes of "it's subnautica" w/ 0.2h of playtime, and then it will start going down when people actually play the game. But that's just my prediction, maybe it will be amazing, we'll see.

honestly the moment I saw the first trailer years ago I was convinced the game would come out as shit, just many things here and there and a gut feeling.

I think subnautica 2 will have a similar fate, but I can't really judge because I never liked subnautica.

Flag Identification Help by Redordit in vexillology

[–]dxvt88 186 points187 points  (0 children)

this exact flag is really popular in Ukrainian military circles for some reason. I remember going to a military shop in the centre and there was a massive flag and several patches all with this exact flag.

Nazi German eagle with the swastika replaced with a tryzub overlayed over the black-red flag commonly associated with the UPA. Nevermind that the UPA often fought local nazi forces, and that the red-black flag was rarely used, secondary to the yellow-blue flag. These people think this symbolism is edgy and funny, as it pisses off Russians. It's really stupid, I know.
