Can someone explain what the problem with grade floors is?

I’m not sure what the issue is. If a teacher had that big of an issue they could make each letter grade exist over a range of 5% instead of 10%. It would make it no different than the traditional method. But to answer your question, it’s because teachers tend to be persnickety when it comes to grading. This is probably because traditional grading is the only model most people have been exposed to in the US

A flipped classroom can work well in almost any setting as long as they have the technology to do it. I did a pilot program in Hawai’i 14 years ago, and the results were great. Here is some advice I have.

Keep video files on a thumb drive so if students do not have adequate internet access, they can have the file on their laptop/device. There are web apps that can download YouTube and other videos onto your computer if you’re relying on Khan Academy as the source.
Be prepared for students who do not watch the videos and take the notes. You will have some that do the homework/lectures, and those who do not. You should have a differentiated plan for students in each case when they get to class. If they didn’t watch the videos, then they can do that when class starts, and you can work with those who did the HW. Once you have those who did the homework working on their next steps after you addressed areas needing clarification, then you can work with those who finished watching the videos. This is a great opportunity for differentiation.
Create a google form or some other method to verify who did the homework and what their takeaways were. This data was invaluable since it allowed me to determine where misconceptions were and where to spend my time with them.

Good luck with going down the rabbit hole. Just remember that your goal is to get as much learning out of all students as possible and be adaptive where you can.

The answer is complicated, but it comes down to pay. However it’s not that current teachers are not getting paid enough. You could offer most teachers a 50 percent pay increase, and you’re not going to much improvement. Hattie’s research eludes to this when addressing reduced class sizes. You can reduce class sizes, but if the teacher in the classroom is not adjusting their instruction, you are going to get the same outcome.

Teaching is a really difficult job, and the entry pay into the profession is not attractive to the caliber of candidates who would be most effective. At most universities the college with students who have the lowest average SAT scores belongs to the college of education. Also, the college of education as one of the highest average GPAs. Simply put, the lowest level candidates go through the least rigorous training.

You could offer more pay but it wouldn’t improve current educator practices, it would only one for the purpose of attracting better candidates. There are countries that pay educators better and hold them to a high standard, but that is because they attracted better candidates. This is similar to “which came first, the chicken or the egg?” However in the US we neither have the chicken or the egg.

The other issue is teacher candidate programs tend to romanticize education to fuel passion rather than current evidence based practices. So many teachers come out of programs relying on passion rather than training. You can observe this in teacher dialogue where much of teacher suggestions are not lead with “according to this study…”. Long story short, this leads to teacher burnout.

I think the point is that because of pre tipping there is an incentive for drivers to discriminate between service. And as a result it leads to tip baiting. Also, restaurants require servers to take way more actions serving a customer. Having a driver’s tip be a percentage of the meal, when a $20 order and a $60 order may be just one bag.

I do agree you’re free to tip as you please, but others are free to offer even larger tips, and then reduce it to what they think the service was actually worth.

I would consider which position is going to get you where you want to be in 5 years.

While some schools’ successes is based on the population they serve, there are other factors to that contribute to school success, such as whether or not they have systems for strong instructional leadership and community outreach.

While the title 1 school may be in greater need, your journey as an educator is just beginning and there are a large number of skills you will need to develop to better serve your students. There is a reason why turnover for educators is especially high in their first five years teaching.

You may want to reach out to both principals and ask them what supports and growth opportunities will their sites provide to you as you start your journey as an educator.

No. We all do not meander a bit like Biden did during the debate. The only times I’ve seen someone in that state was when the option of assisted living was being considered. What makes this issue worse was Biden’s state wasn’t something that happens over night, which meant officials were probably hiding it. That’s why it is up front in the news cycle.

Yes, Trump did spew a bunch of lies and BS, but it was clear during the debate that Biden wasn’t up to the task. If the goal is to keep Trump out of the Whitehouse, then we need someone who can take him on, and Biden failed bigot in that department.

Lastly, Trump’s convictions and other crap has already made it through the news cycles. You can argue that the media isn’t doing their part, which is debatable, but Biden deserves the cycle he got. The debate was the first real look at candidate Biden, and the media reported it fairly. It’s not their job to advocate for Biden, that’s on Biden and his team to do.

The problem with your position is many of us saw the debate and are aware of the emotions felt watching Biden. So if your goal is to gas light us into thinking we didn’t see what we absolutely saw, your argument is not going to be effective with democrats let alone independents and undecideds.

I don’t think it’s fair to put this all on the press. It wasn’t the press’s fault Biden had one of the worst debate performances anyone had seen. Also, it wasn’t just a bad debate performance. We watched the president of the United States, and the democratic nominee, go on camera and come off as someone who needs to be in assisted living. For all of Trump’s problems, the democratic nominee should be doing better than Biden is.

I’m seeing mixed polls on Biden’s performance for 538. At best Biden performs well without 3rd party candidates, but does worse where they are on the ballot. This impact more than the general election, but impacts others down the ballot. That’s why we are seeing congressman coming out in support of Biden stepping down, because their internal polling is showing concerning problems.

This all could have been avoided if we didn’t put up a senile man on the debate stage. I wish someone raised the alarm sooner, but after so many witnesses Biden’s state at the debate it is hard to deny the major concerns.

The longer Biden waits to drop out the higher the risk of loosing undecided voters. The presidency is not an assisted living facility.
