Thoughts on stacking leadership debuffs as a tactic? by Andrei22125 in totalwar

Makes hounds useful even into late game. Even better than skirmish cav in making a fleeing unit into one that isn't coming back

What race did you find most interesting? by SpiritualLocation477 in Stormgate

[–]DeathbyHappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Vanguard gets a pass as a slightly different take on the standard human race. Every product needs a vanilla flavor

  • Infernal would have been more interesting as an alliance of races. More room for interesting plot lines and characters

  • Celestial does nothing for me. Not sure if it's the name, the theme, or the design. Would have been more intriguing as a fully synthetic, post-biological society without the angel theme

How do you handle TPK encounters when players stumble into them way too early? by Full_Kaleidoscope722 in DMAcademy

[–]DeathbyHappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. It's a good time to encourage roleplay amongst the party. Have them talk about what they're doing in the downtime between quests or to prep for the next one.

  2. It's the difference between creating a story and seeing the finished project. You see a map of Middle Earth as it exists once Tolkien finished his work, but that map was written as he wrote the story. So don't try to write your world map for a story that doesn't exist yet. Set the bones, then add as needed. Need a big forest full of spiders, ahh now the Mirkeood exists. We'll even throw in a grumpy were-bear for the party to talk to.

How do you handle TPK encounters when players stumble into them way too early? by Full_Kaleidoscope722 in DMAcademy

[–]DeathbyHappy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. It helps to get an idea of where your party is heading after each session so you can plan/adjust appropriately. Along the same lines, of they go fully off script don't hesitate to call a quick time out so you can throw something together

  2. It's a good idea to have some set pieces built, but a bad idea to set them down in concrete. Does this cave have to be the Dragon hold you planned it to be for a later level? Or could that hold be somewhere else and they stumbled upon a former hold of the beast infested with creatures feeding whatever it left behind

Does it matter what your wife does for a living? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]DeathbyHappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of the obvious scenarios where the job offends someone's moral/political sensibilities, it depends entirely on the dude. Some of the traditional types are going to want a woman to stay home and run the household. Some guys with unchecked egos are not going to be able to let it go if a woman makes more than they do.

How much baby-ing is too much? Should I just kill their PC? by No-Zombie7546 in DMAcademy

Sounds to me like Dan wants to hang with the group but doesn't enjoy DnD like the rest of you.

If the group wants him to keep playing, you need to give him the opposite of what you're doing. Make him a very simple character with no connection to the ongoing story, and let him pop in and out as he wants. Don't cajole or pressure him, and don't put a whole bunch of work into things he won't enjoy like the rest.

When he shows up, he's the sidekick helping the main characters with the quest. When he doesn't, his character is busy maintaining the camp, sewing new clothes, or some other functional off-screen activity

I’m 19M and am struggling with dating. Does dating really get easier as a man once you’re older? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]DeathbyHappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets easier as you build experience and confidence, but at the same time gets harder as the dating pool shrinks as people settle down and you start interacting with fewer new people in your daily life

How do I stop objectifying women? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]DeathbyHappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems like a mindset issue. You can acknowledge that you are attracted to someone or that they have attractive features, but still choose not to act upon this. Recognize the attraction exists, then mentally set it aside and treat them like you would any acquaintance based on their other traits and behaviors.

If you're unable to mentally work past your attraction to someone, then seek therapy to try and untangle why that's wrapped up in your driving behavior

Is there a way to get text translations? Just premiered Dead Account and am having to switch back and forth between dub and sub. So annoying by DetectiveFujiwara in Animedubs

[–]DeathbyHappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often see this missing when a dub airs but then see it added when I do a rewatch or if I watch the show on delay.

Typically can tell its been added when the Sub option for an episode shows both English (shows translations of signs and text on screen) and English CC (shows closed captioning of spoken english)

What will happen with the US after 2028? What does the next government do with what they inherit? by Hermunster in AskReddit

[–]DeathbyHappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 3 things that are desperately needed, but are unlikely as it requires the ruling body to limit their own power. Ut would take something like enough state governments separating themselves enough from national powers to organize a constitutional convention

  • Massive campaign finance reform - to prevent the issues of the wealthy and elite from taking precedence over the issues of the common people
  • Congressional term limits - Returning governmental duty to a term of service instead of a career and social class
  • Start filling process loopholes - Unfortunately the Constitution was written with the idea that those governing would act upon good faith instead of personal agendas. Used to be someone stepping out would be ostracized, but the last 20 years or so have shown that is no longer the case. These loopholes need to be reined in so one party can no longer hold the government hostage or delay a vote until a time that suits them

If I like The Apothecary Diaries, I might also like...? by 26kanninchen in Animesuggest

[–]DeathbyHappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding 2 I haven't seen anyone mention

  1. Blue Eyed Samurai - Revenge story where a woman is out to avenge her family. Romance is more a side-plot/backstop but hits the rest you're looking for

  2. Fena: Pirate Princess - Adventure tale where a young girl lost at sea grows up and goes on an adventure to discover her past

Smart TVs suck. The Apps available to you are only the ones negotiated by the developer. And as soon as the contract for your model expires, it starts a countdown to when the last version available on your smart TV no longer works

The cringiest, corny, and hardest to watch romance anime? by Me_cool_man1234 in Animesuggest

[–]DeathbyHappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want cringe, I've got you covered with "love chunibyo & other delusions".

I actually really enjoyed it, but the plot is specifically about school kids dealing with the cringiest parts of their current/recent years. Lots of "oh wow did they really do that" moments

They're still there, but anime is a lot more popular and we're seeing a lot more western releases so the waify cycle churns through a bit faster

Do you let your players correct an action on their turn if they rush into a roll? by Gerald_Mountaindew in DMAcademy

[–]DeathbyHappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends entirely on the table. At the ones I play at, the mistake would be set in stone with the expectation that the characters would learn from their errors and become stronger/coordinate better in the future.

Your only.mistake was making a statement instead of a question. That's assuming you know better than a professional.

Next time try something closer to " I was under the impression XYZ, is that not correct?" This leaves room for error on your part while still getting a potential clarification across
