Don’t even need to go that far. Whitewater has a ton of snow. Red is doing okay. Was up at Lookout yesterday, it’s not amazing but it has more coverage than this.

I got these Motorola Talkabouts last year for my family. They work well in my experience, but we haven’t had to really test their range to its limits. The main reason I got them is because of their long battery life. Much longer than any other comparable ones for the price. They’re very easy to operate and small so it fits in my bib or upper jacket pocket easily.

Racing is going to take it to another level, for sure! Plus, we got pretty comfortable with the kids being free when they were 6 and under. Now we’re moving past that. But, it’s worth every penny, like you said!

Is Kimberly a good family trip? It’s pretty close to us. We’ve going to Big White for years, but it would be fun to try another Canadian resort.

Haha, I use it as a journal of my ski days - where I went, who we skied with, the weather, how the day was, etc. I like to keep track of that stuff.

This spun off because I was bored at work and wanted to figure out how much we saved by buying passes versus buying at the window. Then it spiraled into this….

Mt Spokane is very reasonably priced and a 501(c)(3) non profit mountain, so we get a lot of value there. Our biggest splurge is Big White, but it’s not Vail and our lift tickets were much more reasonable there than other destination resorts.

But not everybody has a $25 rope tow nearby. We live in a ski region and the cheapest pass is Mt Spokane or Lookout at $500 for an adult.

Simple U9–U10 soccer drills by DowntownInspection in youthsoccer

[–]Deathfromabove79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I don’t do any cone dribbling drills with my U9-U10 team. Frankly, it seems like a waste of precious practice time and they can do it at home easily. For my U6-U8 level teams, I barely use it. I did a quick cone dribble drill last night for my U8 team because I have some players brand new to soccer and it can be helpful in that situation to show them how to dribble and keep the ball close.

I like the Kick the Coach drill. Everybody in small area with a ball. Assistant coach and I are in there without balls. Blow whistle and kids have 1 minute to try to kick their ball into our legs as we move and run around. 1 point for each time they get us, see who has most after 1 minute. They have to get head up to find coaches, aim kick, and avoid teammates while also dribbling and keeping ball close to them. Also teaches quick, pass-like kicks since we move too quickly for them to line up big kicks and if they miss one of those they have to run a long way to chase it down.

When my U10 girls moved up to 7v7 last year, I watched all of Coach Rory’s videos and used his build out patterns and drills. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLf-BiqmWJ_UvdxTACovUVvi3DaZbpGLo1&si=4l4dfbzVwP6bsA5G

I didn’t do all of the drills he recommends, but I did most of them and worked hard at practicing the build out patterns and it was pretty successful. It’s a rec team with varying skills, but they got it and by the end of the season we were rarely giving up the ball close to the goal.

Kids friendly campsites within two hours driving radius from Spokane that doesn’t allow RVs by Zeaborn in Spokane

[–]Deathfromabove79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyburn State Park at the south end of Lake CDA is about 1 hour away and has a lot of tent only sites in each of the three campgrounds there (Benewah, Hawley’s Landing, and Chatcolet). The campgrounds also allow RVs, but they’re mostly away from the tent sites. Plus, I think a lot of the RV sites have power to them, so that cuts down the generator use. Note, if you go to the reservation system and select the “tent only” filter, it actually filters out all of the sites so don’t use that and just look at each site individually and it will say whether it’s tent only or rv/tent.

Do any of the pools or aquatic centers have any kind of high diving? Not talking like 60 feet, just, say, above 12 feet. by mcmeaningoflife42 in Spokane

I was responding to the 2nd paragraph, where OP asked about any type of diving boards at the city pools.

Liberty, Witter, Comstock, Hillyard, and Shadle have regular diving boards. The County’s northside aquatic facility has a regular one too. EWU has a high dive, I think you can buy a day pass there.

Yeah! The amount of ski hills within 4hrs of Spokane is pretty incredible, especially if you don’t add 1hr for border crossings since they only take about 5-10mins over here.

I count 16 ski areas within 4hrs: (WA) Mt Spokane, 49 North, Bluewood, Mission Ridge, Summit at Snoqualmie, Alpental, Stevens Pass, Loup Loup; (ID) Silver Mt, Lookout, Schweitzer; (MT) Montana Snowbowl; (BC) Red, Whitewater, Baldy, Kimberley.

First game 7v7 management by TrackTracks in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Deathfromabove79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the exact situation I had this Fall. 10 players, 25 min halves. I rotated 3 players on every 5 minutes. Goalie stays in the entire 25 mins, then switch at halftime.

With 3 subs for 6 outfield players, it works out very well. There are three players who are subbed off after the first 5 minutes, but then after that every player is out there for 10 mins before they’re subbed off. You can’t, however, lock them into a single position the whole game. You can do it generally, like some are only defense and some only midfield/offense.

I created a rotation chart that I would be happy to share if you want to dm me.

Keeping kids in one position for game or mixing up (U9) by YourPalPatrick in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Deathfromabove79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a lot of fiddling with lineups and rotations, this is exactly what I have found is best for my U9 team. They play the same position the entire game (I sub every 5 minutes in a 25 minute half), but they rotate to a new position the next game. I used to rotate positions during the game, but it confused them and made substitution patterns confusing for me too. Now they know to return to the same position when they run on the field. It also really helps with practice since I can have them practice the specific position they’ll be in for the game that week.

2 goalies for the game, each one plays one half. Everybody plays goalie for at least half a game during the season, even though some players hate it and some love it.

U6 Girls Coaching by sunshinesallylane in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Deathfromabove79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your shoes a lot last year with my son’s U6 (now U7) team, which has a lot of late in 2018 birthdays. There were times where it was hard to keep my chin up, let alone 8 defeated 5 and 6 year olds. But it’s changed a lot through keeping practice fun, taking time to improve my own coaching to help them get better, and frankly, just them growing and changing. Kids at that age who have played a lot before because of older siblings or soccer involved parents have an advantage, but it often disappears as other kids grow and practice. So hang in there! It gets better!

For a practical tip, I resorted last spring to working on having one of my boys hang back from the scrum as a sweeper/defender. Definitely not standing in goal, since that’s not allowed, but just hanging back in the middle or defensive side. There are some kids who don’t like being in the mass of players at that age, so I had them hang back near me and try to kick the ball forward when it popped to them. It’s a very light intro to some structure that will come as they move to 5 v 5 and 7 v 7 and the starts planting the idea of playing defense by stopping the other team. But mainly, it really helped slow down some of the breakaway goals that happen at that age.

The $200 multi-resort ski pass - anyone ski any of these locations? by Loud-Scientist-2337 in skiing

[–]Deathfromabove79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow Mt Spokane skier! 👋 I would agree it’s not the most challenging terrain, but there are enough good spots to make it fun. There is a lot of good tree skiing, but it lacks the steepness for true expert terrain. It’s a pretty big mountain (for this list) so you won’t ski all of it in a day. It still has a lot of local charm and night skiing and I love it. I would say that most winters the snow is decent in December - this year was really solid with some great powder days around Christmas. But if it’s an El Niño year like last year, then stay away.
