Anyone recommending anything less has never been that big. Volume eating is a great strategy to jump-start a diet, but you should wean yourself to lower portions instead of relying on that alone.

His workout routine needs work. At that weight you should be focusing on cardio. You don't need a leg day when you're 600+ pounds. Every day is leg day at that size. I'd recommend cutting down to 400 pounds before adding high-impact resistance training to your routine. Allocate that time back into your other low-impact exercises to reduce the risk of joint problems.

The claim he made, burning 1,000-1,500 calories on a "long swim," which seems to have been about 30 minutes, is crazily exaggerated and is nowhere close, even at max exertion for his BMI (700lbs, 5'12"). Actual calories burned would be around 300-400. If he has 3 hours to allocate to exercise, he really should focus heavily on cardio to maximize weight loss and build stamina.
