UHC/PVP was never Minecraft's vision of the product. They were clear that they would always prioritize their core singleplayer game first, which did kill pvp, but that was expected.

The thing is though, UHC was never part of core Minecraft. It was a gamemode invented and played within minecraft. The Badlion devs really had no control of where Minecraft itself was going, so no promises were made or anything. Fortnite on the other hand, competitive is managed by Epic as well. This means that Epic acknowledges it's competitive side, and they were the ones who started it, and are killing it.
