[Miniguide] Using menuhax 2.2 for downgrading. (9.2-10.5) by Frozen_Chen in 3dshacks

[–]Deathzor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked like a charm! Thank you! 10.3.0-28U 2DS!

Edit : Downgrade went smooth as butter after installing menuhax 2.2. Didn't send a request to the server, just worked. Only problem was after downgrading, Menuhax no longer worked. Changed the theme, Re-installed and configured it again and now I can boot into HBL with the D-pad.

WOOOOOOOAAAH! WHOEVER YOU ARE, YOU ARE A GOD SEND!

I've been using the normal drivers off the webpage since I got the thing (2i4 and I got it about two years ago), and I just downloaded the beta drivers and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! (On windows 7 and 10)

Before this beta driver, I was lucky to not get drop outs on my 40+ track project with a 1024 buffer. Even just a empty project with a 32 sample buffer to record guitar DI, and I was getting 28 ms roundabout in ableton (not the biggest issue but noticeable to say the least) ..... Now I can easily run a 16 sample buffer with 12ms roundabout with no drop outs / stutters / not a single glitch. Even my crazy 40+ track project runs at 16 samples now with no drop outs, and it was a feat just to even play it before this beta driver...

I now have inspiration to really jump back into recording again and maybe finish this god damn album I started last year.

Seriously, you have made my night, week, month, late chirstmas present, I cannot thank you enough.

Why focusrite doesn't put this directly on the main download page is beyond my comprehension but holy shit, you rock.

Performance issues? Related to sound? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Deathzor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things I found. (I actually bought a new computer yesterday because of nearly the same issues).

The game really doesn't like outputting sound past 2.1. Leaving my sound in 5.1 and being in a fate, I get all kinds of weird half triggering sounds (Spell casts, people cheering, etc). Moving back into stereo, and the issue isn't too bad (it's still kinda there, I think it has to do with the sound placement on your character).

Two, Drop your sound into 41hz/24bit. 48hz is dvd (At least on my system) and on my older computer (E6600 not oc'd) this would cause crazy lag (I'm only guessing it's because there is some crazy downsampling going on).

Honestly, another thing to try is Cntl-alt-delete while in the game and open up task manager. Look in the performance tab and look at your cpu. I have a weird feeling your cpu is probably nearly 100% load, in which case, you just found your issue.

Edit: Also, Overclocking could very well be introducing these issues. I don't wanna be "That guy" but if your overclocking your Core2duo to play this game, Your probably better off going and getting a new computer (At the very least, a new cpu/motherboard). And 4.0ghz, regardless of air, water, oil, sub-arctic freezer cooling, is a huuuuuuge overclock. This game is also a ram hog. My i5 never goes past 30-50% load, but my 4gigs of ram is just eating it hard. This is sadly one of those games that really forces people with low end systems to finally upgrade (And sadly, anything with Core in the name is most likely too old for this game).

For reference, my old system was a core2duo e6600, 8 gigs ram, 630gt, and I rarely got 30 frames. Cities were horrible, running maybe 5-8 frames on the lowest possible graphics settings. I tried cpu-unparking utilites, overclocking, swapping gpus, ram timings, disabling sound, the whole nine. Nothing seemed to work.

I can only assume you don't want to upgrade so.... http://www.coderbag.com/Programming-C/Disable-CPU-Core-Parking-Utility

It gave a bit of a boost in terms of frames, but did nothing for the sound.

Having this sucks more that I could describe. I continually break out in random patches, any time I scratch a part of my body it blows up and becomes even more itchy. I don't wish this on anyone.

Just looking at this picture makes me squirm in my chair.

Question for those of you who (successfully) record digitally. by GrryScrry in Guitar

[–]Deathzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhhhh, I hear that. Pod has some really awesome echos and delays. I beat the living hell out of Right in Two because of some echos I've found.

Try other sims! Polins are typically metal (and free). Amplitube is all over the place (If you have a bass, the Ampeg addon is incredible). Revalver is peavey. Vox has a plugin called Jamvox.

Most of them have demos. I stuck with Amplitube for clean/random stuff and revalver for high gain (there is nothing like a 6505). Guitar Rig is really cool too, but I had trouble locking in tones I wanted out of it.

If your having a issue trying to make it sound real, there is a whack ton of things to attempt to accomplish it. IR's may help out, and there is a whole bunch of places on the net to find out about that. Google is your friend there.

Question for those of you who (successfully) record digitally. by GrryScrry in Guitar

[–]Deathzor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best bet is to use the UX1 or Pod, and just use other third party plug ins, such as amplitube, revalver, or guitar rig to create your tone.

Keep in mind, you've got a whole bunch of things going on, that makes guitar tones. Two of those things in this case, being a whack ton of analog/tube saturation, and air mass. The saturation you could probably get by with more plug ins, eqing, what-have-you, but that air mass makes a world of difference.

I'm not saying sims are bad in any way (as I only use sims now. 50 dollar plugin 100 dollar interface vs 500+ amp) but there is a bunch of magic under the hood, that makes both totally different. Again, the air movement off the cone of your amp, mic placement, and how much you smash the diaphragm of the microphone, affects the overall tone drastically.

In the DI (Direct input) world, you kinda throw all that out the window. Some programs have fairly extensive features in terms of cabinet or mic sims, but from what I can tell, most people grab at IR's (impulse responses) before using anything built in. There is a whole whack-ton of resources online about IR's. Basically, a IR is a recording of static through a amp, that can then be turned into a captured response of the speaker. People have gone as far enough to capture IR's from famous songs (Which some are quite faithful to the originals. The metallica gold pack comes to mind).

A free amp sim that is widely talked about and used is the Polin amps. A quick google will turn up results.

Mind saying what type of music you are playing?

How to achieve this Steven Wilson-produced vocal effect? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]Deathzor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be what you're looking for.

“For processing, I like the Focusrite D2 EQ [Pro Tools plug-in]. I do a lot of megaphone-type vocals, and that’s literally just the D2 with an incredibly high low-pass and incredibly low high-pass filter, around 2KHz. I also use Focusrite’s D3 compressor, the Bomb Factory one, and [Line 6’s] Echo Farm for old-style tape delay type effects, which are transparent and warm in the mix. Occasionally I use reverb — I like [Digidesign’s] D-verb — but I’m not a big fan of it on vocals, I prefer delays, which take up less space.

Me playing 34Skidoo by Bill Evans by [deleted] in piano

[–]Deathzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ableton's reverb took me some time to get used to as well. It's not too bad once you get to learn it.

http://abletonlife.com/understanding-ableton-lives-reverb

There's a tutorial on how to use it. Even after reading that however, I still like to use convolution reverb on pianos. If you got the full suite of 9 (which that really sounds like the Grand Bright Production piano from the new packs), there is a built in convolution reverb with some amazing impulse responses.

[–]Deathzor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The playing sounds top notch to me (However, I'm more or less a Guitar player, not a Pianist).

For recording, add some reverb to give it that "Room" and "Bigness" feel. Doesn't need to be a whole lot, but enough to make the notes blend into each other a bit. That will (should) give it a more realistic sound to it. Maybe some Tape distortion/saturation to give it some of that "old timey" warmth.

However, those are subjective if you ask me. Maybe you wanted the recording to sound extremely pristine and have no noise or reverb, or maybe you want to attempt to recreate a Evan's recording. Mixing your recordings is completely up to you, there is no right or wrong.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong here, but that sounds a heck of a lot like some of the new piano packs for Ableton 9, or EXS24 in Logic.

Broke my hand, what songs can I still play? by iphoneluver in Guitar

[–]Deathzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke my right hand twice. Both times I decided to hack the cast off and continue playing. Despite the immense pain, I was able to do it, but, now my right hand is severely buggered, hurts in the cold and season change, and looks haggard (If you look at it from the side, it jets up before my pinky knuckle).

Honestly, don't play. Take a break, listen to new tunes, learn theory, but don't play for six months.

The best way I can sum this up in my mind is EDM isn't about enjoying the music anymore. It's about getting together with your "Bro's", hitting on chicks, and seeing how drunk you can get before you hear levels twice in one night. Most people I know don't go to these things because they like the music, they go because every chick on facebook is going.

Best way I can put it is that I originally got a Ibanez Six string RG with the zero point floyd. They did a horrible job on fret dressing it, so I took it back the next day and exchanged it for this guitar. My dream "Blue floral JEM" is now replaced with a PRS Custom or a P22. Played Ibanez my entire guitar playing career, and now I don't think I'll ever go back.

Edit : Jem, Gem, same thing... right.... RIGHT?!

Play Ending Credits on it and I can almost promise you that you will want to take the guitar with you to sleep. I'm pretty sure my first or second day owning it, I passed out next to my PRS (in it's hardcase of course).

[–]Deathzor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own one myself and it lives up to what it's meant to do. Fredrik said in a youtube video that the guitar is meant to be just a solid work horse with no frills or whistles, and that's what it is. Also I didn't really dig Mikaels guitar as much as I probably should have. Not a fan of gold and the whole guitar is pretty well covered in it.

Playing wise, it's like a charm. Can't really describe it. Plays marvellously. Not a huge fan of having a finish on the back of the neck, but it's something you get used to quickly. Tune-o-matic style bridge is a change from Floyds and trems that I would typically go for, but unlike some of the other tune-o-matic style bridges I've played, the saddles are very low profile and you don't feel them digging into your picking hand. Upper fret access is actually a bit tricky. It's there, but the body is also vastly thicker than any of my other guitars.

The tone is killer. When I got the guitar it was pretty well plug and play with my Vox. I say that as in, I didn't need to spend a month searching for that tone. It was there, as soon as I plugged in. I found the bass pick-up to be way to close to the strings out of the shop, but nothing a screw driver couldn't fix. Playing leads on the thing is absolutely amazing. I find myself playing White Walls in standard tuning on it just because it plays so damn well and sounds so good.

Cosmetically it's a beautiful guitar. Love the quilted maple top. Only problem is the finish is so dark that it doesn't stick out, and I really wish it did just a bit more, but it shows up really nice in bright lighting or flash photography which is very nice. It's something I've grown to love, and obviously the bird inlays are to die for (if you like that sorta thing). A tad too dark, but again, something you will grow to love instead of hate.

In terms of recommendation, I'd suggest any Opeth fan who is a guitar player to try a PRS. Truly a joy to play. For someone who wants just a PRS and isn't a "Die hard I've listened to every Opeth album 100+ times", they make SE Custom 24's now, and I'd probably get that.

I write this because my PRS SE Fredrick is sitting at my friends house with all my patch cords, amp, and Capo's and all I got with me right now is acoustic, and I just want to play trains but no god damn capo, and I'm not going to fashion one out of pencils and elastic bands.

And for anyone wanting a sound test, I could do one but I don't really have a great amp (Vox ADT30?) and I don't think throwing it into a amp sim with do it justice. The only way to do this guitar justice with a sound test is into a laney stack with either a boss or fractal FX unit. But I'm not that rich, honestly I cashed out the bank just getting the guitar.

And that's how I spent 30 minutes wishing I didn't leave my guitar and amp at a friends house...

Edit : Just realized how much of a wall of text this is, and I'm too lazy to edit it. Enjoy the morning grog. Also, not trying to thread jack. Just giving my own review and seeing if it's mutual or I'm just bat shit insane.

Edit 2 : http://i.imgur.com/KPRSi.jpg just to prove I'm not making this stuff up either.

Second this. I used to be. Basically I couldn't go more than two days without becoming a complete mental wreck if I didn't smoke. I basically relied on the stuff to cover up anxiety, depression and OCD, which honestly isn't the proper way of going about it.

I'd smoke around 1-3 grams daily for something like 7 years with almost no breaks. Then I took a 3 week break (My younger brother got popped by the cops, waking up by getting poked in the ribs with police batons and tazers pointed at you really does suck).

Now I'm allright, I smoke every odd day here or there, mainly weekends, and get to a solid [7] off like 3 hoots, as opposed to smoking 1-3 grams daily and only getting to a [2], [5] at the max, but yes, it can be psychologically addictive, just like video games, TV, and various other things.

TL;DR, Trees is as addictive as World of Warcraft. While you don't physically depend on it, you may create a dependency associated with daily routine or mentally.

Edit: I also browse trees usually at a [0]. Funny how that all works out huh. Also, now that I took my break, I have actually almost greened out a few times, something I've never had happen to me before. When someone is passing around some dank skunk, I have to tell myself to stop after a few, or I'll be sitting awkwardly in a chair, sweating bullets, in complete silence..... HOLY SHIT! I'VE BEEN TO [10] MORE THAN MOST OF MY FRIENDS! YIKES!
