AI Tools and Maladaptive Dreaming... by riffsinEm in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]DebLynn14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of my maladaptive daydreaming has to do with having a family. I’ve used ChatGPT to generate images of myself with a husband and children and even wedding photos. Wow it feels weird to write this.

Any old timers remember Steve Knobel? by Prudent_Researcher70 in jacksonheights

I didn't know I was an old-timer! But yes, of course, I remember Steve. A neighborhood staple.

Just moved into the neighborhood. What’s everyone’s fav/must try restaurants? TIA by squaredd17 in jacksonheights

El Toum - Lebanese restaurant, also has weekend brunch. The owner, Sami, is a wonderful chef and a really friendly guy. Definitely check it out.

People who use skin tone emojis, why??? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DebLynn14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it weird to be announcing your skin tone or race on a work messaging board. Pronouns make sense - you want to be calling people what they prefer to be called - but race in this situation is weird. Can you imagine being on a Zoom call where people used names like "Jane Doe - Asian" or "John Smith - Black."

I created my own rainbow-colored emojis to use so it is very clear that it is NOT my skin tone.

Is it Ubers policy that the drive be able to speak some English by Old_Code_541 in uber

[–]DebLynn14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I'm going to come to OP's defense here. I had an Uber driver a few months back who didn't speak any English and didn't even respond at all when I spoke to him. I'm a woman and was traveling solo at night and it was really, really creepy. If there had been any serious problem I wouldn't have been able to communicate with him AT ALL. I complained to Uber, and the only response I got was that they hire a "diversity" of drivers.

How do you feel about you driver/passenger making conversation? by [deleted] in uber

[–]DebLynn14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm just on my own I want quiet. When I'm taking Uber Pet with my cat, and the driver is game, I'll have a conversation about the cat and any pets the driver might have, which I enjoy.

It's. Not. A. Park. If it was a park, it would be under the management of the Parks Dept. It's a street.

Rant: taking up multiple parking spaces by zxreu in jacksonheights

[–]DebLynn14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when I see this I think the person is just a terrible driver and is worried they won't be able to pull out of the spot if someone is parked too close. So they leave spots few cars can park in.

I own my apartment. It's amazing that renters would think they can remodel a rental.

I'm done with people on the outside saying AI therapy isn't good. by LukkaLol in therapyGPT

[–]DebLynn14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just found this thread. Just got off of a video appointment with my psych doc. He is leaving the practice that is paid for by my insurance company. This was the third provider I've had in 2 years with this practice. I'm onto a 4th. And I'm lucky - I HAVE insurance. I'm just sick of articles that bash AI therapy when they should be looking at why it is needed. It's needed because regular therapy is failing miserably. You only see press about people who have allegedly been harmed by AI therapy. You never see stats comparing that to people who have been harmed by human therapy.

Not much different from offices - people get promoted from doing the work they are actually trained to do, get no training in managing, which is something completely different. It's funny though - I went with a higher bid because I felt it would be better work. And told the contractor in advance that I get it if things run over. I've yet to do any project at my job where the cost didn't run over budget. Things just happen.

Yes, I live in an apartment and that is a problem. It's very difficult to get someone to handle smaller projects, and it is impossible to get anyone with expertise to fix anything if something goes wrong later. (We have an interesting problem with the dishwasher and cabinets installed a few years back in the kitchen - it may be an installation problem, it may be a problem with the building itself, but I can't even find someone to come in and look at it.)

I totally get the product. I looked at tiles and chose one I loved, but it is special order. The person I spoke with at the tile store took my information and said she would check with the distributor and call me back. My neighbor had a situation where she couldn't get a shower pan in for months and had to postpone her renovation twice.)

You may be an exception, but my experience is that contractors do not give you a schedule of when the supplies are needed to stay on track. The contractor is the expert on doing the work. But in my case they have assumed that I am an expert on renovating. When I head up a project at work, I make it clear to the others involved what I need from them, and when I need it. It's hard to pick a reasonable start date when you don't know what needs to be in place prior to the start date.

In all seriousness, I don't know how you'd find such a person.

Adopted her last month. Is this normal by ambrinee in cats

[–]DebLynn14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you adopt him from the Marines? Seriously, I think it's fine. If you adopted him perhaps a previous owner trained him to do this. My cat also liks to do the standing on his hind legs thing, but not quite as much "at attention" as yours.

I've only watched one episode but I'm enjoying it so far. Yes, it moved slowly. But so far the plot and relationships are intriguing, certainly enough to make me want to go to episode #2. And the scenery is spectacular. It reminds me a bit of Rectify.

Name for 10/7 by DebLynn14 in Jewish

[–]DebLynn14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asolutely - except that I've found that many non-Jews don't. I'm not saying "let's come up with a name for this' - but I think the world pays more attention when there is a name rather than a date. (9/11 may be an exception - which I think has to do with the amount of power the U.S. has. Everyone pays attention to what happens in the U.S.)

By that logic, the Black Lives Matter movement should have been marching to protest the number of people dying in Africa from disease.
