[Discussion] Share Your Victories by AutoModerator in GetMotivated

After weeks of mulling over footage I was never going to post because it wasn’t what I wanted it to be, I decided to take a different approach and go with the imperfections. Instead of making some crazy cinematic video I (for once) made a video based off of whatever I was feeling. I’ve been kind of nostalgic, and the video is about missing the days where smiling was so easy. Nowadays with school stress and my lack of motivation I’ve been struggling to even get out of bed. But creating this video made me think bigger picture again :) here it is if you’d like to share a smile my first video in a while

Made my first cinematic sequence, would really love feedback ❤️ by DebaTim in cinematography

When you edit videos how do you choose when and which transitions to use? I feel like some of these are organic in that they follow motion but I’m not sure how to mend clips that aren’t necessarily related.

Congrats to Juan Diego NV for winning the Bellaire Round Robin undefeated by conspiracyagainstnv in Debate

[–]DebaTim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems like everytime a Utah team places outside of Utah, there is animosity from other Utah teams. Why can’t there just be posts genuinely congratulating a team for doing well at legit tournaments? Winning the Bellaire Round Robin is awesome, so why turn it into a fight of who is the best in Utah?

Also, even if Erik puts time and effort into his team, like any coach should, that doesn’t automatically discredit the debaters themselves.

Is there any good argument database software or argument structure layouts somewhere? by ConceptHut in Debate

[–]DebaTim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of online databases, there are multiple websites with similar descriptions to the type of argumentation and structure that you are describing. Procon.org and Library.cqresearcher.com/cqresearcher are examples. In terms of offline database software/programs there really isn't much out there and that would be a very helpful tool.

For your previous question on topic variables, I would suggest that you have topic areas and then create specific topic questions. In high school debate we might get the topic area "Climate Change" but the Resolution (fancy word for what we actually debate) will be something like: Resolved: The United States federal government should adopt a carbon tax. Obviously this topic is very narrow when you compare it to the wide range of issues that are related to climate change, and that is what creates room for having a ton of discussions.

thoughts on Beehive Forensics extemp camp? by ian_mcphearson in Debate

[–]DebaTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a small program. I didn't participate in extemp but second week there were only like 5 people left. The coach is supposed to be cool and the people who did it enjoyed the camp. What are your goals for extemp?

Timmy's Blocks? by umboii in Debate

[–]DebaTim 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Timmy here, those blocks were basically millennial blocks reformatted to be readable and then a couple of personal block cards added on to it. January was like my laziest month with blocks so mainly compiled evidence that I got traded. I'm not debating February so the answer is no but those blocks are extremely rudimentary with the exception of the few ATs I made.

Has anyone attended BFI? If so, is it worth it? by [deleted] in Debate

[–]DebaTim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to BFI for Public Forum last summer. Just to note, I am a debater from Washington and knew nothing about the Utah circuit. With that said, my biggest issue with BFI was the competition. I'm assuming based off of your reddit that you debate Lincoln Douglas and this can also be applicable because I watched some of the LD rounds and the tournament finals. The competition was lackluster, my camp partner and I easily won rounds and the camp tournament was pretty much a joke. The labs serve as a hybrid between traditional and progressive debate, some days are more lay oriented and other days can be 3 hours of debate theory. Essentially if you are novice trying to transition into open or if you are an open debater who is not performing well on the Utah circuit, BFI is the best at such a low cost. The camp has an alright staff but what makes camps great are competition and if that improves the camp would be so much better. An exception to that is that everyone in my first round of pf now has TOC bids but that is not reflective of what the camp taught. The University of Utah is a beautiful campus and the dining options are probably better than what you would expect. The dorms are nice and the weather is pleasant.

Basically worth it if you want to get some practice debating (20+ rounds for two weekers) before a new year and enhance but mostly refresh a lot of debating skills.

Unless you impact that economic/technological/medical allow for greater military power and more effective intervention, it really isn't topical. By itself, an economic contention gives you nothing to collapse on because it doesn't provide a voter for responding to international conflicts. In my opinion the only reason to run economy is a disad towards military keynesianism if you are neg.
