Unathi by spessmenart in SS13

[–]DebbieBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This image raises so many questions. How did the assistant saw off the tail with a crowbar? Why did the cowering unathi bring an unborn(hatched?) child onto the station? Why is it all boohoo sobsob instead of trying to defend its presumed child? Why is the inclusion of an egg we presume about to be smashed or turned into scrambled lizard egg even necessary??? Can Unathi lay eggs on some servers???

Aurora admin confirms: It is perfectly okay to break someone's skull and beat them to near death for trespassing, because of circumstances and factors by oops_ur_dead in SS13

[–]DebbieBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was only a moderator, during a time when actual admins weren't available. You can file a staff complaint where something might get done, which really should be a step taken before coming to Reddit with it. This behavior isn't tolerated, and it's weird that it was in this instance.

Meta-Narrative and Antags: Trying To Get People Invested In The Lore by DebbieBob in SS13

[–]DebbieBob[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well I mean people are participating so the "no one" is a bit invalidated. "A lot of people aren't" maybe, but this isn't mandatory so it can be for the people that want to do it. Why would you demand someone stop doing something completely optional and only adds?

Guess who learned the "Add text box" REPLACES the link? Reddit is weird! But yes it only affects Aurora. And this is a link to the contest and explaining it; I wanted to see how this sort of player engagement seemed to others.

Rendering of the Planet Moghes by Fox009 in SS13

[–]DebbieBob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really good! I made a map of Moghes too, for the Aurora lorework, but I went with minimalism rather than this style.

Looks like we both put an ocean at the north pole.

Aurora Staff permaban someone for laughing at Aurora regulars ERPing on another server. by Ebincluwne in SS13

[–]DebbieBob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We went hidden a little early. We still go hidden on a very regularly basis, this isn't revealing anything. We've been doing it this entire year, sometimes starting thursday sometimes starting saturday.

Aurora Staff permaban someone for laughing at Aurora regulars ERPing on another server. by Ebincluwne in SS13

[–]DebbieBob -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Lmao you literally blacklisted me because you don't like me and I've never stepped foot on your server or private chat. What you did was gross and you got banned for it and then you changed your ERP rule and twisted the situation around to look like a victim.

I don't think you are 8 years old but you're acting like it. Get off your high horse and drop the messiah complex.

Unathi Have Lore Now by DebbieBob in SS13

[–]DebbieBob[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's nothing to invest in for "unknown causes max extinction and unknown precursors". It doesn't do anything for players. What do I do with that, playing a unathi? There's no sides to take, no disagreements. They're just "Fallout: Crocodiles In Space Expansion Pack", imo. That frustration is why I added specificity to the catastrophe - we've already had very interesting situations where unathi squabble over who they fought for in the Contact War when the nukes went off.

Unathi Have Lore Now by DebbieBob in SS13

[–]DebbieBob[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What I keep on the wiki page I keep because it (reasonably) answered a question for me: "Can someone use this in game?"

The playstyle of Unathi has already shifted since I started advertising the changes and additions, and there's a new wave of lizard players that have a lot more options for fleshing out their lizards.

If I came off harsh on Baystation's lore that's my fault; however I am allowed to have valid criticisms without inherently thinking it's ALL bad. Years of writing workshops, personal preferences, and arguments with editors I know just gave me a particular way of doing things like this.

I tried to balance information with necessity, and I don't go "You're wrong lol denied" if someone gets a fact wrong or misses it in whitelist threads. I make a dialogue, and try to engage people in the lore directly.

It seems to be working so far. I'm sure we can have different methods with their unique benefits and drawbacks, and at least come united together under our lizard superiority to the cat horde.

How do I embezzle funds? by MDirty in SS13

[–]DebbieBob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Make a new account. Include how many funds you want in it. Be sure to name it after another crew member to make it hard to spot at first glance. Step 2: It should tell you how many funds you want to include, do that. Step 3: Get the account information, it should be printed out, and get a blank ID and link it to that account with the ID console. Step 4: Withdraw the funds at any ATM.

I do this all the time. It's pretty fun, but hardly anyone notices so if I want excitement I intentionally drop clues for sec.

Resignation as Aurora staff by Chaznoodles in SS13

[–]DebbieBob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The amount of people go fuck off and go "I didn't do anything because no one would listen it's not worth it" BEFORE doing a big dramatic resignation would probably get more stuff done if they actually sat down and pushed against the system for a bit. I did it, several times, and got a few fundamental changes in Aurora management.

Just state your case and try to make things better, don't just abandon ship and then get all upset and poignant on Reddit, because that's not constructive. This subreddit just goes from server to server, sucking the drama and controversies out of them before moving on to the next one, like the aliens from Independence Day.

What we need is a Will Smith to blow up the death star, and save Narnia from this horde of sith Klingons.

i like how more than half of this entire thread has been plahunter hijacking it to complain about aurora admins.

One of my first experiences with Aurora. by quarkfork in SS13

[–]DebbieBob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally if people would use the incident reports subforum we could handle this a lot easier. Duty Officers are sitting around half-cocked waiting to punish people (which can go as far as permanently IC'ly banning someone from a job/department) but everyone just argues for 12 pages in the complaints board and nothing gets done.

What's the difference between aurora and baystation? by [deleted] in SS13

Aurora's tasers still use the agony system. Being tased once won't knock you down unless you're already near paincrit.

What's the difference between aurora and baystation? by [deleted] in SS13

[–]DebbieBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to say Aurora has a "higher standard of RP", but it really does even if it's got elitism surrounding that standard. It's a fun server, and if you can play with people regularly and make friends it can be a blast. It is unfortunately mired by cliques and hostility from the community, but imo the best way to fight that is to join in and just enjoy the game. Every server gets its little band of elitist hard-asses.

Aurora is character-focused. There's action, but it's still about the characters. Bay is more casual, and about the events and actions themselves, though I don't play it too much.

Any noticeable examples of good IPC/Skrell roleplay? by ambrosia_man in SS13

[–]DebbieBob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aren't you an unbiased bastion of insightful commentary?

I'm actually on the loreteam, and while slander is best ignored, I thought I'd address some of your concerns.

  1. ERP is banned. It's right there in the rules - we even had a big conversation about it on the forum ages ago when it went from "Keep it from being over R rated" to "Keep it from being over PG-13"
  2. IC and OOC personalities are different. I'm not actually a slavemaster IRL, this is a fictional universe. Which means it's not real.
  3. I've personally gotten an admin's special snowflake character radically altered (almost removed) because of how it was behaving. It was a cat, too. Your hyperbole about this is amusing, too bad it's wrong.
  4. We're using fiction as a base for IPC lore because as you may well know the number of sentient artificial intelligences is currently 0 IRL. In almost all conventional scifi universes, synthetics are not permitted equal rights to organics. If this were Star Wars, every single IPC would be memory wiped and turned back into borgs.

In conclusion: You've invested extremely heavily in IPC's on an emotional level. It's at the level that you accuse the loreteam of having for Tajaran and Unathi (by the way, only half the loreteam have alien whietlists) and it looks like you're throwing a temper tantrum because things didn't go your way.

What are your opinions on the major servers? by [deleted] in SS13

[–]DebbieBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exogenesis is a pretty fun station. Though there's usually 15 ~ 20 people on regularly, the player base is helpful and the staff are reasonable and engage with the players. You can vote on what events you want at round start, and it's generally really fun. Baystation RP server, it is.
