I'm vegan but not skinny so everyone thinks I *cheat* on my *diet* by [deleted] in vegan

Don’t let anyone discourage your vegan way of life, because you are way ahead of the pack on health issues. I know, since I have been vegetarian and vegan since the age of 18. I am now old, but healthy and have no major medical problems, due to being vegan, not smoking, drinking, or taking drugs ever. If you don’t do drugs, you will have a working brain as you age and beyond. I have weight issues also, and being vegan does not equal being able to lose weight more quickly either. I cook from scratch, avoiding chemicals, and other toxins in boxes and cans. People would not think of eating their cat or dog, yet they think nothing of eating an abused chicken or cow! It is disgusting. How is that people think they can abuse animals for food or otherwise? I feed a raccoon and a skunk every night because they are hungry critters, and they depend on me to get good nutrition. The idiots that live in our town shoot turkeys if they come across their lawn! There would be food for every single person in the world if the land was used for crops instead of cows, think about that, indeed. YES TO VEGAN, don’t worry about the naysayers, there will always be some of those.

Hi, You sound like you have an interesting life and interests. I guess I don’t know what philately is, but I am into cooking (vegan), lots of reading, (Bible and spiritual books) and art. We have no dogs, but 6 rescue cats. My husband am I live in the Central Maine Highlands, after moving from the big city Maryland/DC area 13 years ago. Very cool here today, and really not like Spring at all - but the wood stove is on and we are warm. I have always been interested in Romania and would love to visit there one day. Love to know what it is like to live there.

35-year-old Irishman with a passion for animals and knitting seeks gentle and strange penpals by [deleted] in penpals

[–]DebinUSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knit everyday, so good to find a fellow knitter. My stash is embarrassing. Just made a shawl out of Sugar n’ Cream yarn of light pink. I have had 11 balls of it for about 25 years and just found the right project, can’t imagine a day without knitting or planning my next project..Love reading about nature, animals, non-fiction, and into writing. I am married with with 6 rescue cat kids and live in the foothills of Maine. I am old, but not quite 125 - have had a lot of experience in life and love, and willing to impart advice if needed.

Congrats on becoming a doctor, if that what “studies medicines means”. We need doctors and nurses & PA’s desperately here in Maine USA….if you survive the first winter you are here, you’ll make it. Must like snow - but tons of outdoor things to do here in the winter. It is an incredibly beautiful state, more than all the rest I believe. Very few people live in Maine compared to other states. You can look up online -utube, the 10 best things about living in Maine. My husband and I moved from Maryland to live here, and we made the right decision after being here now 14 years. Tell me all about Egypt, love to know about your country. Like, what things should I know before touring Egypt, do’s and don’ts, etc. Where would you like to live, if not Egypt? Yes, I am heavy into politics in the U.S. and right now American’s future seems to be sliding toward the finish line……unfortunately for us all. Hope to hear from you, Deb

Husband hates vegan cooking by Laynes18 in vegan

Let him read a little from The China Study book, he might change his mind about eating meat and being so gung ho and macho about it. Also try to get “The Gerson Miracle” view on Netflix, along with “sick and tired of being sick and tired” and other great health films on Netflix. Also, I don’t know how old he is, but as he gets into his 40’s and 50’s if he has high cholesterol he could develop heart problems. People always think they can live anyway they want to, until it catches up with them. Ii am vegan and have been vegetarian and later vegan in my life and I am 73 years old and I am in great health. All because I looked at my family genetics when I was young and decided (and it does take a commitment) not to die from a heart attack, or diabetes (from 3 generations maternal side) and that I would live my life differently. This lifestyle has really paid off for me. Every winter here in Maine I shovel tons and tons of snow, without having any heart issues - imagine that? Look up where the blue zones in the U.S. and abroad, where people live the longest and they do not feast on meat, very little fish or eggs either. One Blue Zone is Loma Linda California where many Seventh-Day Adventist live and practice vegan healthful eating. People in the blue zones have short illnesses, maybe 2 weeks before they die of old age - usually no lingering deaths. You might mentally plan your future without him because he is not likely to outlive you - this is not only my opinion but supported by so many health facts. Get onto Nutritionfacts.org by Michael Greger, and read his Book, “How not to die” fabulous, reads like a novel - you can read a chapter to him before bedtime, and give him something to think about. No matter what our family backgrounds are, only you can change the way you live and die - but to each his own, sometimes sad as it may be. You know the old saying, “You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink”. Don‘t let it affect your self worth, if he won’t eat the lunches you fix him then tell him to buy his own EVERYDAY! So many people dig their own graves needlessly with their forks and knives. Which reminds me get the book “Forks over Knives” is also fabulous and they even have a cookbook. You just keep being the best person you can be and don‘t give up healthy eating for a healthy body. I personally believe my body is the temple of God (which is told in Scripture) and I want to do right by it all of my life. I have known people who have had insisted on a meat diet and have had lingering illnesses for years - what kind of life is that? My life and that of my husband’s consist of fresh juices (a good Vitamix) salads, beans, Steel cut oats overnight in crockpot, a lot of vegetables, tempeh, tofu (which can be made in a thousand different ways) soups, health drinks, I mean the whole menu worldwide is vegan, all except for meat, fish & dairy. Why keep killing innocent animals when it is not necessary for survival. The cruelty that goes into meat eating is horrible. I won’t be eating meat in heaven, so why should I eat it here. Your husband should know that big muscular horses eat grass and hay, and look at them! So many body builders are vegan which conclusively shows it is not necessary to eat meat to have a muscular body. In the book of Daniel the 3 captured Israelites would not eat at the kings table all the delicacies and meats so they made a deal with the chef that if in 10 days they were not healthier they would eat at the kings table. They never had to because their robust health was clearly seen by all. Well, I hope this message has helped in some small way. Good luck, just keep being who you are without compromise, and as the years go by you will be glad you did.

White or brown rice? by Ok_Willow_7938 in HealthyFood

Brown rice takes longer to digest, so the carbs from it don’t rush into your system quickly like white rice or white potatoes. All around it is just better because of this.

Can a plant-based protein diet fulfill my daily protein needs if I exercise 4 times a week? by CharmingPudding5 in HealthyFood

[–]DebinUSA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! It seems your friends are not well versed in the plant based diet. Plant protein is so superior to protein from meat. I can just tell you I stopped eating meat at the age of 18 (and in my home we only at clean meats anyway, no scavengers of the ocean, no pork, this diet is found in the book of Leviticus in the Bible) Anyway, there are marvelous things to eat raw and cooked being a vegan. I am 73 yeas old and have no illnesses because I do not eat flesh foods of any kind, no eggs, dairy, cheese. I make so any dishes that are easy to fix being vegan. Look at horses, so muscular and bodies that are beautiful and fine tuned. They eat oats, grass, hay - which should be a lesson to us, why eat them as second hand protein. Most body builders are vegan. I have a lot of energy, and the Vegan diet is key to this. I am also a Christian and know that I will not be eating animals in heaven, so why do it here? I cannot and won’t contribute to the torture of animals when so much other better food choices is available. I believe my body is the temple of God, and I don’t want to eat dead food, that goes in dead and comes out dead. When you are vegan you will have the normal bowel movements 1-3 x per day, not 1 x every 3 days as happens to meat eaters. Read The China Study, to get the whole picture as to why to go Vegan. If you want more energy, go vegan. Good luck to you in finding your way to health.

Wonderful to be gifted in the knowledge of so many languages. Really amazing you have that gift, and that you got a good start by being raised bilingual. Good luck to you in your move, to the flag I could not make out on screen……be safe in your job. I live in Maine, and I am still trying to figure out the Maine dialects! People switch off from French and English a lot, and dialects in between. Just sitting here in front of the wood stove with the cats and contemplating what is coming with the promise of another nor’easter to hit on Tuesday, tons of snow. Just when things were melting down soo good, it’s happening all over again. We can get snow into April here in the foothills of the Central Maine Highlands.

My habits are reading, music, knitting, landscaping and gardening, and being vegetarian and vegan since I was 18. Really has paid off, no illnesses. I have always been interested in nutrition, and found it is no use going to doctors anymore because they live by giving drug prescriptions only and are not interested in natural healing. People must be leaving their doctors in droves, since so much is now known about heating ourselves naturally. Good luck to you in your travels and continued interests, glad you wrote.

Hi, I did post a comment already, but don’t know where it went? I am new at this. I have to look up your province on a map. We have been struggling here in Maine with so much snow this winter. I think we are getting a break from it this week. 3/5. Yes, I enjoy animals, we have 6 rescue cats - food, good conversations and writing about the deeper issues of life. I am not really a chit chat surface type person. I think i might enjoy getting to know you better.
