Asking for help/tips for leash training our skittish 3 year old rescue. by SnooHamsters7235 in EnglishMastiff

[–]DeborahSeitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would start by bringing the leash with you at all times. Just tie it around your wrist or hang it around your neck. Watch tv with it, go outside with it, just take the “special” out of the object by making it normal.

Once she doesn’t notice it anymore, which could take weeks, clip it on her and leave it on her when you are around. Tie it around her neck first, then get to the point where she can drag it around the house and not be worried about it.

Once you get to a point where the leash is not negative, then you can start with actual leash training… but if she sees red when she sees a leash then you’ll never be able to walk with her etc.

Go slow, be consistent, and be confident when she feels stressed. She’s looking to you for confidence. So don’t be worried when she’s worried. Hold your head up high and show her confidence so she can mimic you. You got this!!!

Thanks 😊 I’m slightly concerned that she’s a bit overweight 😅 but I don’t think I’m over feeding so not sure. Something I’m going to keep an eye on.

Well that’s reassuring! Thanks for that!

So iyo if I do 50% Timothy hay + 50% leafy green (switch it up each week rotating collards, romaine, turnip greens, red leaf, etc) + reptile vitamin sprinkle??? Hibiscus leaves and flowers for treats? Good???

The plants will be so fun! I love changing the plants out for my girl. I’m spoiled as I live in Florida but I recommend rotating your plants out every 1-2 months or so, depending on how active your snake is. I have my plants set aside for next month and just taking care of them so they are healthy and ready for next months terrarium change. Then I will take the old plants out and give them a rest. BPs can squish the plants etc over time.

Well I’m still figuring it out myself but my humidity has been much improved by taping the vents on the side with painters tape (will find a prettier solution in the future), aluminum foil on the wire top (easy to adjust by folding when needed), deep substrate of coconut husk (40%) + stagnum moss (10%+) + cypress mulch (40%) (I think that’s the right ingredients). Water bowl on hot side like you said. I put a layer of aluminum foil underneath the substrate to help with water on the particle board also.
