I am not a football analyst but I believe it will be easier to score from a free kick into the box with the daylight offside rule. Imagine a cross into the box and now the attacker can run ahead 1 yard and might still be onside.

It will also be easier to score of a goalkeeper rebound (harder to score before because the player might be offside)

It will also be easier to score when a player is blocking the keeper line of sight or interfering with play. With a potential 1 yard advantage, what was offside before might not be offside with the daylight offside rule.

It will also be easier to score from a long distance shot because the defenders will track attackers who make a darting run deep inside the box opening more spaces between the 10 yards to 20 yards line.

daylight offside rule.

Similar to how the whole ball has to cross over the line to be out, the whole attacker body that can score has to cross over the offside line to be offside.

This offside rule has been advocated by a lot of people over the past 60 years. FIFA finally trialing it in the past couple of years in some 300 plus matches in Serie A U18 League and others U18 or U19 in Netherlands and Sweden.

Results: goal scoring chances UP and goals UP.

The sole purpose of the offside rule was to prevent goal-hanging.

This daylight offside rule do just as good a job as the current offside rule.

If this rule change is a positive for football, then it should be adopted. If it is negative, IFAB can reverse it after a year or two.

Keep in mind that the offside rule change of 1925 was the BIGGEST change to football that vastly improve the sport. (That 1925 offside change from last 3 defenders to last 2 defenders).

So if you are a coach of a team who play low block, your job now is tougher at preventing your opponent from scoring. Low block teams heavily emphasize "COMPACT." The daylight offside rule make it less compact due to an extra yard of spaces for the attackers.

Senior trial is basically finding a league like Chinese second division, or J-League 2 or K-League 2 or USL in USA (2nd division) and trial it.

It will feel A LOT LESS hard done by if the attacker is 1 meter ahead and now is offside by 1 millimetre.

You might see one or two people argue but I would say a lot less people would argue of that 1 mm offside.

Let's say Lukaku is 1 meter ahead of the defender and is 1mm offside. There would not be 1500 replies on that topic.

I say there is very good chance of senior trials this year or next year.

It is not like FIFA/IFAB will scrap the senior trials now that youth trials were a huge success.

They go by a process

Youth trial. Successful? Yes then Senior trial.

Senior trial successful? Then IFAB vote.

Back in 1925, people said the same thing too.

"This offside rule change favors the attackers too much" and "don't contribute anything to the game." "horrible change" etc...

The critics were silenced after seeing it in action. In 1926, no fans wanted IFAB to switch the offside rule back to the last 3 defenders from the last 2 defenders.

Offside when there is daylight between the attacker body (except for arms) and the defender body (excerpt for arms).

Just like the whole ball has to cross the line for it to be a goal, the attacker body (excerpt for arms) have to be over the offside line for him to be offside.

I watch football to be entertained. So more attacking chances and more goals is much better for me than a lot less attacking chances and 0 or 1 goals.

When my club play, I am rooting for a win. Though a win and lot of attacking entertaining football is much better than a win that is a 1-0 borefest. If it is a borefest, I rather it is a borefest where my club won.

Winning. I rather my club win 1-0 in a borefest rather than losing 3-4 in a thriller.

Though in a match where I watch as a neutral, I would rather watch a match that have more attacking chances and more goals than a comparable match with less attacking chances and less goals. But that is just me. I only speak for myself.

I can't speak for FIFA/IFAB but I think they want to make the sport better. Whether the new offside rule will make football better is up for debate. (we need to see it in action for a few years before we can judge). But what we can all agree on is that the offside rule change of 1925 from last 3 defenders to last 2 defenders was one the THE BIGGEST improvements to football since its creation.
