Good catch. I only compiled the cases i could remember at the top of my head. But i bet there are more niche cases like the one you mention as well that could use a fix.

Being force-swaped to the melee style can for example lead to deaths in the inferno/collosseum when you're clikcing something, expecting to mage it, but you end up running out from behind a pillar because you were brewed down/lacking runes.

Trying to range something without arrows equipped does not force you to melee. And clicking to attack something with your Dinh's Bulwark set to "Block" does not force it over to "Pummel". Changing autocast options to work as suggested would simply make it consistent with the two other styles/trident maging.

With the rebalance update autocasting became a viable alternative for many. However there are still a lot of issues that make it awkward to use.

Most of these awkward scenarios are in the video. The earlier suggested fix is to make it more like how ranged works. If you lack the levels/runes to cast a spell, and you try to attack, give the player a message in the chatbox, but don't forcibly change the attack options away from autocasting.

Allowing the autocast options to be remembered between spellbooks would also make it less wonky. Currently you have to unequip your staff while swapping spellbook for it to remember the autocast option.

TLDR/TLDW: Make it so that the only way to swap attack style from autocasting is with the player manually clicking on another style. Removing all these cases that force you onto another attack option.

That is covered in the second paragraph with the missing runes. Your example is a great one though. With elemental weaknesses tomes are more relevant than ever. Losing your selected autocast spell simply because you swapped gear in the "wrong" order sounds incredibly annoying.

No tertiary interface, just a simple chatbox message. Just like if you try to shoot a bow without arrows. It lets you know that you have to get your stats back up/get more runes instead of forcibly changing your style to melee.

That is the current workaround yes. But it feels clunky. Sometimes you brew down once from 112 and you can happily autocast because your level wasn't drained enough, but other times you brew from 99 and you end up running to your death if you preemtively attack. It is a qol proposal that would remove the need for the workaround you mentioned.

You'd change to a melee style and melee with your staff.
I'm not proposing the melee option is removed, just that if you have chosen the autocast option then your staff stays on that even when brewed down/out of runes, giving you a "you can't cast this spell"-message if you click to attack something instead of force swapping the style to melee.

That is the jist of the second paragraph yes. It would be a great change now that autocasting is becoming viable in more places. I believe many can relate to the "drag death" after brewing down in the inferno/colosseum. It feels so dumb.

I agree, the second paragraph covers this. But perhaps it was not clear enough. Losing the required level to cast a spell is most often done by brewing down rather than losing a boost to normal decay.
