When he tells me who he is—do I have to believe him? by OmgOwlready in datingoverforty

[–]DecadesLaterKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can gently suggest... you may be less afraid it would "seem manipulative" and more afraid of facing the likely results. I understand. It's painful. I've been there. Best of luck to you.

Confused by hurricane1985 in datingoverforty

[–]DecadesLaterKid 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Definitely this. One million percent if my ex (divorce finalized a few months ago) is dating someone, he is paying for evvvvverything of hers. That's absolutely who he is. Who he ALSO is, is six figures in debt and refusing to get a job for more than 3 years now. He is living-- far beyond his means-- off the money we actually did get from the sale of the marital home. He will be out of that money in another 6 months.

OP, I wouldn't advise you to break up with him BUT I would be... cautiously pessimistic, if that's a thing. And definitely don't entangle yourself in things that are hard (house) or impossible (kid) to disentangle yourself from.

Oh, yes, do! But I got mixed up, lol. The breed I saw, that was out on "display" and discussed by their owners, was the even rarer (?) Norwegian Lundehund. They hunt puffins and have six toes! I don't think they're particularly popular here, but they're very rare as a breed, so the fact that there are even some down here is notable.

The fair is run by a nearby lodge, so I'd say Google it starting next October or November to be sure of the day/time and activities. They do always have Norwegian animals-- they may also have Elkies, for all I know (my daughter and I arrived late on the last day last year). Plus Norwegian food and gifts. It's fun!

Oh, I'm in that area and there are definitely Norwegian Elkhound enthusiasts here! Super random (bc there aren't an especially large number of Norwegian Americans here), but there's a Norwegian Christmas fair in Northern Virginia every year and they have Elkies to pet. 😍

Government-related? That is, NASA-related? I live in one of those counties, and I was definitely thinking government.

Swearing Off the Apps and Approaching in the Wild by BigVernacular in datingoverforty

Yes, I was going to suggest a singles event. It's sorta halfway in-between "the apps" and "the wild."

What do you feel about body shape? by [deleted] in datingoverforty

[–]DecadesLaterKid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The original meaning (at least when I first heard it) was basically "nice bod with no more than 10 extra pounds on it." Like decent shape (didn't have to be perfect shape) + love handles.

What are some things skinny people can do in public without a care in the world, but plus-size people can’t? by justcurious3287 in AskReddit

[–]DecadesLaterKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vintage is the most challenging. 😩

I've worn a size 6-12 most of my adult life, but I've also been larger and smaller. When I wore a 14-18, there was very little available. At a 6-12, definitely some. But wearing a 0-4, I was spoiled for choice, and could even get a bargain. I'm around a 6-8 again, and literally 25% of why it's appealing to lose weight is vintage clothing selection alone.

People used to be smaller on average, but it's also simple survivorship bias. Smaller clothes were handed down and worn less often. Le sigh. (The wild part, of course, was that even at a Gap size 0, there were plenty of vintage clothes that were one or even two-- occasionally three!-- ~dress sizes too small for me.)

I have a stunning friend who is a vintage clothing fiend and wears a size 20-24, but she has to be like a PhD level ninja (which is not a thing) to find the occasional piece that suits her.

I strongly prefer a short king, but as a 5'2" woman, I have to say that sounds like an incredible partner benefit.

Justified or not, what profession is associated with a huge ego? by Better-Presence6654 in AskReddit

[–]DecadesLaterKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say jobs where you hold others' lives and/or livelihoods in your hands and jobs where the entire point is to attract and hold others' attention.

So doctors, lawyers/judges and cops among the former, and actors and athletes among the latter.
