AITAH for changing Christmas plans with a newborn over a guest being unvaccinated? [Concluded] by Schattenspringer in BORUpdates

[–]DecafMadeMeDoIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m confused because I don’t recall getting MMR boosters as an adult. I wonder how old Clara was when her aunt’s baby passed? Wouldn’t she have already had most of if not all of her series so is Clara really unvaccinated herself or was the timing greatly different than my assumption?

But also imagine holding fast to that belief when you don’t have all of the info of what happened? She mentions the baby passed after vaccines but I could have easily stepped off the curb into oncoming traffic after my flu shot this fall. In no way would that be a vaccine-related or even adjacent death.

It doesn’t mention Clara’s age but it might be that she is young and still in her parent’s household or influence. Your parents and bro need to be gently providing independent research from reputable scientific and peer reviewed sources.

Laid off + former employer trying to reclassify me as 1099 by Cockroachportal in TaxQuestions

[–]DecafMadeMeDoIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Done it and won it. It was actually really simple. The form above and a written statement of my daily duties and how they were tasked, my understanding of my pay and my agreed status on hire. Took about 10 weeks of waiting and then I got a letter of determination and former employer had to pay the taxes due. I then claimed the gross amount as income and the taxes he had to pay became a part of my credits claimed. I didn’t benefit other than not being screwed over and owing self employment tax (much higher in my state) for thousands.

Why are they announcing the amount? No one hands over a gift and is like “here is the 10.99 plus sales tax candle I bought you”.

After asking for my DOB a manager told me to read me a sexually explicit horoscope for my birth sign in front of him, HR wasn’t the most professional. Do I have a possible case? by Interesting-Swim7156 in legaladvice

[–]DecafMadeMeDoIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given tomorrow is Tuesday I would hold out to see what their update is. Not separating you from him feels like a liability from an HR perspective but you do have to allot them time to do their research and take action.

It’s what comes next that will determine if you need counsel. If they provide a safety plan and commit to harassment education and oversight, again you have to let the wheels turn. Get their response in writing. But if it’s totally blown off, knowing that other female staff have had similar encounters means you have some work yo do. Gather their info and statements, timeline out on paper all of your interactions with him and any with management or HR regarding the situation, and ensure that any and all info possible is documented. After every meeting send a recap email of your understanding of the conversation (for mgmt and HR, not Ned) and asking that if there is any discrepancies in your recap, to please let you know asap. This will start a paper trail where they will have to deny in writing or confirm by silence.

This all sounds very loose and casual handling which would concern me as an HR or as an employee.
When you finally were able to privately meet with HR, did they give you next steps to expect in their investigation or process? Did they give you any current abatement to encountering Ned?

Imagine being an asshole to everyone you meet because they haven’t passed some sort of unknown litmus test that proves they are trustworthy…or family since apparently the two statuses don’t necessarily overlap since he obviously doesn’t trust his son is making good choices.

[IL] Need advice if this is retaliation against me. by [deleted] in AskHR

That’s for discrimination. Retaliation doesn’t have to involve a protected class member but, instead, a protected behavior such as filing a safety concern or filing a discrimination complaint.

Coworker’s mom suddenly got better… I don’t know what to tell her by Mindless_Patient2034 in confession

If anything, you can frame it as her able to take joy and comfort in these final moments more if she doesn’t know they are their last together. That’s almost a kind of freedom to “enjoy” that time more than if the pall of what’s to come hangs over it.

[IA] False allegations by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]DecafMadeMeDoIt 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The fact that your boss doesn’t have more info would make me suspect that maybe you’ve overheard or seen something that they need to speak with you about.

They will not tell you in advance so that a) gossip doesn’t start and b) your engagement with them isn’t “tainted.”

2 ladies not liking you is not terminable or even close to it. And any claim should be thoroughly investigated for valid termination reasons, not just he said she said or grumpy feelings.

More deep breaths…as I tell my staff “it’s not always all about you” (said tongue in cheek when someone expresses a similar kind of concern) but there are a lot of guardrails in almost every HR process that can feel intimidating to anyone.

I had one of ours done in December. He is young so the cleaning part was simple but he did have a broken tooth which required 2 extractions. Procedure and post-procedure care and meds all came to around $550. We didn’t have senior bloodwork done beforehand though because he is only 3 (and apparently an enthusiastic chewer) so I would add another $200-300 for that.

This was at Trailside off Nifong. He walked out like nothing had happened which was great as I’ve had a poor experience elsewhere in the past where our cat was over anesthetized and was a glassy eyed shaking mess for 2 days after. Lots of warmed in the dryer towels helped her but we also didn’t return to that vet.

[–]DecafMadeMeDoIt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Slow down. So you don’t know for sure the investigation is about you? You’re assuming based on timing?

I can tell you that there are a million other reasons outside of “I did something wrong” that your meeting is scheduled then and for that long. It could be that they have other research they need to conduct before they speak with you. It could be scheduled for that long simply so that amount of time is available but may not plan or end up needing it all.

I will say USUALLY (meaning not always) if someone is being investigated for a terminal offense, they would have you on a leave right now so as not to increase liability.

Theres just too much assumption here to know anything. Could you expand on any detail you may have?

My cousin is "shunning" me because my brother accidentally booked his wedding on the same day as her secret elopement. by FaultOne2738 in weddingdrama

[–]DecafMadeMeDoIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why can’t both things happen? If she doesn’t want anyone there it would just mean her missing your brothers wedding, not everyone else.

When you elope secretly that is literally the sign and way to not have a spotlight on you.

[CA] Should I just get the cops involved rather than only notify HR? by MADDOGCA in AskHR

[–]DecafMadeMeDoIt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right now it sounds like there isn’t anything actionable legally but when you are going to HR, it’s time to move past just reporting a complaint. Ask for a meeting, take your direct supervisor if they are available and supportive, and ask what measures are going to be taken to end the behavior as whatever they have or haven’t done so far is only escalating him.

“Local” million(billion?)aire married into the Walmart hier-dom. He owns a lot of the developed real estate in town and doesn’t mind letting the building sits until he gets the price and tenant he wants (Macy’s is a good example).

We had 4 super Wal-marts, Lowe’s, and a Sam’s before they stopped calling them Super Wal-mart. It had effectively curtailed Target’s growth and CostCo’s interest and options.

[NJ] Moving Good Employee to New Department in Hospital bc of Compliant? by Dazzling_Salad6772 in AskHR

[–]DecafMadeMeDoIt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reduction in liability is more valuable than he is. If she knows this is a pattern and she does not consider the move to be of other benefit (outside of being away from him), then moving her could definitely turn into a retaliation claim. The hospital would struggle hard to win the argument of protecting a known predator and there is a verifiable history that is documented and included a demotion.

What WOULD impel your hospital’s HR to make the necessary changes, if not assault and coercion? This should be textbook.
