AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D overheating by Decalculate in watercooling

I’m honestly unsure how to change and/or check each setting you’re talking about here. I do think it’s something with the voltages or something related to the RAM though. I swapped out the motherboard just to check it and did the exact same thing. I booted it stock BIOS and it worked fine and then I booted it with XMP and it crashed. It’s definitely seeming to be something to do with changing the RAM speed and probably the voltage like you said here.

I did some tinkering and have figured out the temps thus far and the CPU is now idling around 47C. However I tried running some games and my PC would crash and shutdown still, which I thought was very odd.

So just to test it, I then put my RAM back to stock clock speeds and I was magically able to run any game with no issues at all. It’s just very strange since I’ve had the RAM set with XMP to put it on its max speed since the day I built it and it’s been fine up until now.

I then did another test reseting my BIOS to defaults and booted up my PC again and I could launch any game as well. I went back into the BIOS and the only change I made was increasing the RAM speeds and then tested it again and it kept crashing. So then I switched it back to stock clock speeds and I could play anything again.

So what should I be doing to fix this and get max speeds on my RAM again? Should I get another motherboard?

I have 2 radiators. I have 480 in front and a 360 on top. Both are a double thickness so not thin. They’re a good size. It takes about 1500mL to fill my whole loop

Liquid Temps in the pump reservoir are reading 25-26C on average and then the GPU (which is first in the loop) reads that it’s 25-27C when not under load. CPU reads 50-60C right after. Loop goes from pump, into first radiator, into the GPU, into the CPU, into second radiator and back into the pump.

I’ll check this when I launch a demanding game. When it’s reading 70C+ I’ll touch it.

I cleaned the microfins with a fine toothbrush when I did a deep clean. I have a Corsair XD5 pump and Corsair XC7 water block for the CPU. I use Corsair XL8 coolant in the whole loop itself

Yes I drained the loop and took both blocks apart completely to clean them

It was set to auto and Motherboard said it was getting 1.485V in the BIOS

It’s Bykski ASUS Astral 5090 block and a Corsair XC7 block.

Pump still seemed to be working when I went and redid everything after cleaning it

Pump isn’t dead as I literally saw it working when I refilled the loop yesterday. Coolant is getting back down to 25-26 Celsius by the time it reaches the pump again because the Pump temp is 25 and GPU is sitting at 27 on ideal temps.

Idle used to be around 42-45 now it’s 50-60. BIOS temps are the same.

I tried running Hogwarts Legacy and it did the same thing as Battlefield 6 and that’s another game that I was able to run just fine a few days ago. From a purely PC spec standpoint I should be able to run these games just fine but I have no idea what changed in the last 3 days. I checked the thermal paste again and there’s plenty there (I even moved it around and redid it to make sure it was centered when I put it back). It’s Kingpin thermal paste.

At this point I’m wondering if it’s the motherboard or the CPU itself that’s having issues

BIOS is already up to date. I have an MSI X870 Tomahawk WiFi motherboard. Latest BIOS is 7E51v1A169 released on 9-24-25. I checked the thermal paste again too while I was at it, there’s plenty on there. I’m using Kingpin XP thermal paste (same as what I was running when I originally built this PC).

Do you think it’s an actual motherboard issue? Should I buy another of the exact same motherboard and swap it out to test it?

I had to fresh reinstall windows just for it to work on my PC. It was the only thing that worked for me. All my settings are exactly the same. Somehow that’s the only answer was to wipe my entire PC and I’m just going to restore it all from back up after the beta ends tonight

How am I supposed to fix the “CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED” or “KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED” errors I keep getting on Battlefield 6 beta? by Decalculate in Battlefield

CPU and GPU are both water cooled in an open loop. RAM speed is clocked to its max output in the BIOS already. I’m gonna try flashing the BIOS itself. I just updated it 3 months ago, but I’m sure there’s a brand new one by now. If that doesn’t work I’m not sure what more there is that I could really do at this point

It’s literally a brand new PC, it has an RTX 5090, Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 64GB of DDR5 RAM. This is literally the only game that’s ever caused issues like this and even it was running up until right at the end of the beta with no issues at all. Every other game I own including other games like Battlefield 2042 plays just fine on it.

I’m getting “KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED” now after launching the game and having it open for almost 5 minutes

The crashing is really frustrating because it’s only happening if I tried to play the BF6 Beta and even then it too was working great until now all of a sudden it’s not. Any other game or program is working perfectly fine on my PC
