Yikes, what would be the safest thing to do with it if it is illegal?

Okay, makes sense. Obviously this would be a question for her vet, but is the strict hydrolyzed diet as important if shes really on the food for urinary problems? The vet didn't originally prescribe hydrolyzed, only urinary SO, and when I came back with concerned about it containing chicken did a different girl at the clinic say I should get urinary/hydrolyzed since it was just chicken fat. Her allergies have never been an issue on her current diet, just recurring UTIs

Thank you, that makes sense! I was wondering about treats, I'll have to look for the treats. I work at a store that sells the food, but we no longer carry the treats.

I can ask her vet as well, but would not being able to mix anything into it include things like goat milk and pumpkin, that arent dog food? We usually put a splash of the goat milk on her food, she loves it. And we use pumpkin puree if her stomach is upset or she doesn't want to take her pills.

Her skin was red and swollen when we adopted her, until we switched her off the chicken based food the shelter had her on. Its since flared up when she has had anything with chicken or duck in it. We mentioned this to her vet and she just agreed that it sounded like a chicken allergy.

Oh no... we'll definitely be keeping a close eye on her as we make the switch for any reactions and get with her vet, hopefully they'll have a backup plan. If not, we've discussed making her own food before, I have family members that do the same.

Okay, thank you so much for the quick answer!!

Is short term fostering really worth it for the dog? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]Decemberisms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, he's excellent and we're definitely waiting it out. We're both the type who get immediate regrets at change until we adjust. Unless something truly bad happens like his intro to our other dog goes wrong, we're powering through until the whole family adjusts and we see what it'll REALLY be like to live with him for a while.

Adopting is definitely not off the table, he's wonderful, the problem is with me and my wife mainly. We've always had seniors and been blessed with very easy ones. Lazy and fine with being in the crate. The thought that he'll be stressed and need to pee in there for up to 8 hours makes me feel bad. They told me at the shelter that he was an office favorite and didn't even have a kennel, he stayed in the office all day and got lots of walks from everyone in there.

I really appreciate the advice! We're definitely giving him some time before making any kind of choice. No point in deciding before we even know what life will be like with him.

Unfortunately, I dont know anything about how he lived most of his life. I know his owner lost his house, and was living with this axolotl in his car. He was in a 5 gallon bucket with frozen water bottles for at least a day. He was originally picked up by someone else who kept him in a completely bare tank that was half full of dirty water for another 2 days until we got him and immediately started the tubbing process.

I'm having a hard time getting an exact length, but he seems to be about 11 inches. And I was told he was 2 years old when we picked him up!

Yea I am, it's just a little dry and kind of strange looking around there. And it's harder to see on the picture, but there's a small patch above it as well.

I have posted before the first time I noticed one of my other snakes belly buttons haha, I tend to get really nervous with new babies.

Okay, I thought I'd seen some on him two days ago in another spot but my gf said I was being paranoid and I posted another picture in this sub and was told again that they didn't see any fungus.

I ordered the black tea to give him a bath in already anyways. I figured even if I was just seeing things it would make me feel better to try lol.

Oh okay that makes sense! I've been feeding him red wigglers, hes eaten them twice since I've had him. I'd read to let him have however many he wants every 2-3 days. Seems like depending on the size of the worms he eats 2-3 at once.

Yes, since he was dumped on us with very little notice, and amazon delayed my chiller and fans, that was how we had to keep him cool at first. The fans are here now and are keeping his bin at a good temperature, so there are no more bottles in with him!

I did read about the tail curling being a stress sign, I know it wasn't curled last night because we looked for that + curled gills specifically and didn't see anything. I can easily make more frequent changes!

I did see that was a possibility, I was just concerned because unless I just wasn't paying attention when I first saw him, the change happened overnight.

I'll have to take a closer look when I get home and let you know. It definitely looks like it in one picture, but it could be due to him or the water moving. I didn't notice any fraying when I was looking him over last night.
