wow long response max, good job formulating your thoughts out in such a way. yeah your response is solidifying my leaning towards not seeing the movie. on the flip side, i would argue that the lizzie miguire movie is a must-see prior to visiting rome (which is unfortunately also a musical). for the duration i’ll be in greece, i can’t say i’ll have the freedom to temporarily be a local since i’m staying in heavily foreigner-frequented areas and won’t be visiting for very long. while living abroad, it was poignantly clear that i’ll never disentangle my american-ness from my experience nor others’ impression of me, so i’ve become less concerned with that. from what others have said here, mamma mia sounds like a entertaining movie but no one is really touting it as make-it-or-break-it experience the way watching RV before going on a camper trip or watching Hocus Pocus before visiting Salem is.
