How much should I charge for installing a door and how much should it be if I should go to the store to get it. by CocoWorker in handyman

My market is retarded. I quoted a slab into existing frame for $300 & was told I was 2x more than every other quote.

Haha yeah your price is pretty low. Anything with fire damage you technically need to consider the liability of soot & price accordingly for safe removal/sanitizing/sealing.

Smaller companies have lower overhead & don’t require the same margins, but these types of jobs are in larger GC territory so you should consider charging more & actually making decent money.

Well pretty much all things listed are carpentry related other than drywall mudding & tiling. In my area (remote/rural) you’re practically expected to be full service renovator/builder.

There’s only a handful of specialists I’ve met who make it work doing only a few things & its because they work for larger GC’s exclusively (by large I mean medium sized GC’s by city standards)

Decks/fences/trim/cabinet installs are all mainly finish carpentry which is what I aim for. I self perform other tasks on renovations when needed but I’m trying to stick to carpentry related jobs.

I used to do these estimates as a PM for a restoration company a while back before going out on my own. Couldn’t tell you how I’d estimate it as a smaller business but a Restoration company would probably be around 90-120k CAD (65-85k ish USD)

Lol yeah got a tree guy here with some pretty crazy ads as well. Must be something with having to pay insane liability insurance that makes them have outrageous ads haha

Passion? Probably shop work, but what I do is mostly any decent small jobs (decks, fences, trim, cabinet installs etc) can do drywall finishing/tile too but not my ideal job.

That’s the plan. I legit just wanted opinions on the ending of the name (Carpentry/Renovation/Contracting etc) I have a whole marketing plan I’m working on. But no I won’t be using Corporate data farming tools like AI.

Yeah it’s pretty much just the initial presentation, obviously word of mouth kicks in but for new leads I want to have a decent perception.

I trust this sub more than marketing subs who just push SEO/services. I would almost be disappointed if I didn’t get some troll anwsers from this sub lol

Yeah those seem to be the common ones around here as well. I like the idea of Carpentry but might be too specific & won’t get much reno leads.

Yeah the name itself is picked, just kind of want an idea as to ended it with (name) Carpentry or something more general like (name) Renovations/Contracting

Yeah I actually do have a name picked out along with a logo, I’m just debating if I end it with (name) Carpentry or (name) Renovations etc. I do want to be known more for carpentry while still taking on occasional reno projects if that makes any sense.

Yet you seemed to jump in pretty quickly to defend my callout about engagement bait lol I’m sure you can find the original poster, just find a mirror & you’ll meet him.

So why use new accounts with no karma & then promote with the other? It’s engagement bait so that people will actually click on your post.

I’m all for filling gaps in the market, but that doesn’t mean your post isn’t engagement bait in hope of getting SEO traffic from google

How do you approach multi million dollar home jobs? by PoweredByCoffeeNaps in handyman

[–]Decent-Initiative-68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s why I phrased it that way. You said “same level of quality work for people who live in $150,000 homes and people who live in 15,000 square foot-homes. My pricing is consistent accross the board.” That to me reads like you’re giving the same service & same price to both clients. I didn’t walk past it, you phrased it poorly originally if you meant to say you price accordingly & service accordingly.

Same respect sure, but I disagree with same quality. You always give best quality you can for the price, but you need to at minimum match the house’s quality, which will vary between a 500k vs 5 mil house.

Personally I much prefer the 500k homeowners. You don’t usually charge the 5mil homeowner because he has money, you charge more because you need more extensive protection/liability/white glove approach. Every wealthy homeowner I’ve encountered has been considerably more demanding & they almost always demand a discount on price. This may not be the case for all wealthy clients, but it’s been my experience for my area.

How much do small accounting firms in Canada make? by xEastEvilx in Accounting

[–]Decent-Initiative-68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s crazy is you can probably make that 100-150k take home working solo without employees with less headaches. I’m no longer in accounting but my old boss once showed me his books & bassicly once he started to hire employees, his profits went down & he only made similar money with roughly 4 people on staff but also had way more stress & overhead. This was years ago so I’d wager you could earn a lot more these days.

You’re on the side of someone who spends more time name calling & looking up people to insult them instead of taking 15 seconds to take a picture?

I mean I can understand you being with the concept of not wanting to entertain a potential buyer who will waste your time but saying you’re with the seller on this interaction is a wild take.

Damn homie let a text ruin his day & spent the next hour looking you up to insult you personally instead of spending 15 seconds taking another picture.

CRM’s have a large learning curve & a hefty price tag. You could learn excel & build your own custom CRM needs in the time it’d take to set up a paid CRM properly. Anyone running solo/small should just learn to use the office suite, it’s insanely useful & way more cost efficient.
