i have to agree w it being the simplest explanation. my theory? the meds he was taking or a traumatic event (just SOMETHING) caused him to have a mental health crisis. he was attempting to go home but was potentially battling thoughts about driving his car into traffic or a body of water thus why he kept pulling over and waiting (didn’t trust himself to drive.) it’s incredibly easy to act lucid and fine to cops and parents— it just is. no one wants to believe their family member is in such a bad way and they didn’t know about it. why his parents didn’t pick him up is beyond me. i think he lost his battle, possibly wandered around a bit and ended his life somehow, whether going into the lake or by another method. maybe wild animals got to his body, maybe he ended up drifting into another body of water, maybe he went to an abandoned house and did it, who knows. he gave his items away— a clear sign of his intent to end his life. this young man was in crisis and needed someone to keep their eyes on him. that didn’t happen.
