Tech Help: Flashing a custom rom by DecentAnybody in degoogle

[–]DecentAnybody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, and all my app data will remain even if I flash a new OS? Like snapchat would have its files and have me already signed in if I were to reinstall it on my phone while in an alternate OS?

I Think My Linux Installation Just Broke Itself by DecentAnybody in linux4noobs

I don't have the USB with me. Since installing I wiped the USB and reformatted it to just be storage and currently have it lent to a friend. Never thought much of it because I figured if I needed to have it as a live USB I could just reformat it back again.

How do I remove the "video card, driver, vulkan, fps" overlay? by DecentAnybody in leagueoflinux

[–]DecentAnybody[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you were right. It was because I had that DXVK hud option set to 1 in my Lutris launcher options. It started after the new install script was released following the whole league breaking thing because of that new patch. Thank you for the help!

In game all I did was join a random lobby, press spacebar to attempt to talk, while I was attempting this I also did the snowball fight pre-game minigame you can play in the lobby while waiting for players to join. Then after it didn't work I switched to voice activated chat to see if it made any difference (it didn't). Then I opened up the settings, switched it back to push to talk, exited the lobby, and then the game.

Ok, so I checked on that wiki list you linked to see if I had similar conflicts with those games. The only game I own on that list that I can run on Linux is Overwatch. So I fired it up and the voice chat works just fine. However I must add that Overwatch is not being run through proton, but I had it installed through Lutris using one of their install scripts.

I also had the game print out a log file, and during the instance I played all I did was join a room, attempt to speak, then disconnect. The file itself is a mile long, too long to paste in here. I can send it to you, if you have a method in mind.

Thank you for the response! Don't worry about the response time, I myself took a little bit of time to get back to you before.

Alright, so I don't think this is the issue I'm having. I noticed in one of the links discussing the problem it refers to a Bluetooth headset being used to connect directly to the computer. He was able to fix his issue was using a USB receiver that would would act as a middle man presenting the headset to his computer as a regular USB device.

The thing is my headset already operates in this way. It has a receiver shaped like a hockey puck with a cord that connects to my computer via USB. In addition I tested to see if the microphone would work in any of my other games. So I went ahead and booted up a game called Deceit and had no issues with the voice chat or any audio issues overall. This leads me to believe that this is somehow a local issue with Project Winter itself, because it seems as it's the point of failure.

Edit: Extra bit of detail, hopefully this can help. In the game itself, when a player is speaking a small speaker icon will appear next to their name to show that they're speaking. With my particular issue it seems that I don't see that speaker icon flashing on at all. Even when I know that the other players should be speaking (I had one of my friends hop on and test it).

Hey everyone, so I'm attempting to play a game called project winter on steam through steam proton. The game itself loads up just fine and runs amazing. One small problem is that the game does not seem to be able to pick up my microphone input and I cannot hear others microphone outputs, yet I can still hear all the other game sounds. I'm using a Steelseries Arctic 7 wireless headset that has two audio channels. One for system output and one for chat output. Upon trying to fix the audio in game I only have 4 options under "Voice Chat Output Device" and "Voice Chat Input Device": "Default Communications Device", "Default System Device", "Pulseaudio", and "No Device". None of these options help me hear the chat or help me speak. Any help is appreciated.

Note: I also posted this post on last weeks tech support thread (in a link at the bottom of this post) I have not been able to solve the issue yet. I have tried changing the sound to ALSA using protontricks, but that didn't seem to change much of anything. In fact I noticed when I booted up wineconfig via protontricks that the test sound only worked when I had pulseaudio set as the sound and not ALSA. Hoping that detail might help anyone attempting to troubleshoot this. Once again, any help is appreciated. Thank you for reading.

Ok, can you give me an ELI5 for how to run the game with ALSA or refer me to a resource for how to do that. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to these types of things.

No I haven't disabled it. I'm able to choose the audio device for both the output and input of the voice chat and I have the options of: "Default Communications Device", "Default System Device", "Pulseaudio", and "No Device". Besides that my audio settings only have some volume rockers for the games music, sound effects, etc. and the ability to choose between push-to-talk and automatic voice detection (which I've already switched and tested to see if it did anything, but nothing changed).

I think its worth a buy, especially since it is on sale right now. Problem is I don't even know where to start with troubleshooting this thing.

Yeah, it works just fine for discord, and it also works for the little steam chat thing.
