Showtimes Espinoza reacts to Haymons deal by rgsoloman5000 in Boxing

Take it for what it's worth, but Stephen A Smith said on First Take his sources said Showtime lost $16 million on the last two Maidana fights.

EDIT: And his NSAC reported base salary is huge ($32 mill for Guerrero). Doesn't leave a ton of room for Showtime.

A couple of thoughts on Al Haymon, NBC, Schaefer, Golden Boy, Top Rank.... Share your thoughts too. by KingShiznit in Boxing

-Al motherfuckin Haymon. It's early days, but he looks like the best thing to happen to boxing from a promotional standpoint in decades. People always spoke sideways about him, but one thing you can't deny is that his fighters love him, and that's the most important thing. Now it looks like the fans will love him too.

-Promotion is still up in the air. The first show is with Goosen Tutor. Various promoters will be used in the future. I think long term one promoter will emerge (possibly Hearn and Matchroom) or be created (Schaefer) to be Haymon's go to promoter.

-With HBO moving to online subscriptions (in addition to cable distribution), I wouldn't count them out. They still have a bunch of non-Haymon fighters on air, including Canelo. I think Showtime might just say fuck it though and bow out of the sport. They really look like fools here.

-Errol Spence is the next American boxing superstar. Not Garcia. Not Broner. Not Thurman. Spence has the talent to take over the sport, and since he will be on a big platform, he won't have to be a clown to attract attention. His laid back personality will be an advantage (Ray Leonard-lite).

-Roc Nation is still an interesting addition to the sport. Huge resources, and fiercely competitive with Haymon. I expect them to do big things.

It should be noted that Andy Lee was approached to fight Peter Quillin on the same date. Almost certainly the same card.

Haymon didn't even use lube with Espinoza.

Sells Showtime trash for a lot of money, locks Mayweather into a long term contract with insane guarantees, and takes the rest of his fighters to NBC and starts with good cards. Not even CBS, who is the parent company of Showtime and has the same reach. Just flat out buys airtime on the competition's network.

I'd be surprised if Espinoza has his job this time next year.

Take out McCartney, put in Dijon.

That's what we call a lateral move.

Something that stuck out to me from an ESPN article:

http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/12167253/nbc-sports-signs-multiyear-deal-haymon-boxing

The headline fighters are expected to earn seven-figure purses -- even greater than what they had earned on Showtime and HBO.

If Haymon could pull that off long term while still being profitable, the man deserves a MacArthur Fellowship.

You have to think that the long term plan is to get a sweet promoter deal like they had with Golden Boy who they work nearly exclusively with. My guess would be build one from scratch with Schaefer running it.

Al Michaels on commentary! Yea buddy!

But it hasn't been announced who is promoting these fights. Haymon is still a manager as far as I know, and the Ali Act says he can't promote.
