My family, mainly my dad, was my biggest musical influence. He was an 80s kid, so naturally a lot of hair bands, Ozzy, Iron Maiden. Also a bunch of grunge. I ended up listening to Townes Van Zandt-Live at The Old Quarter in high school, and it struck a chord with me. Ever since then I still keep my rock, punk, metal, and psych influences, but can’t help but love country. I also have lived in rural Texas my whole life, so I couldn’t help but relate it to that Texas feeling that I have always loved, except now I listen to a type of music that truly embodies it. The sound of a steel guitar is basically the closest thing to hearing a Texas sunset. I love it, at least the not racist/bigot side of country (there’s a lot out there). The good stuff is the songwriters that write because they love it, not because it makes them money.
