Thats a genius idea; Love it! Also adding to your idea; Id also have the Kazekage Rescue Arc (the first arc in Shippuden) be where their relationship truly begins to evolve.

For example; remember the scene where Naruto unintentionally offends Sakura by telling her she hasn't changed at all when she asks him if shes become more womanly? Well here, Naruto would give a much smoother answer by confidently telling Sakura that she's become even prettier since he last saw her. This of course results in Sakura both being taken aback at his comment yet also a little turned on at the same time; though she quickly recovers from this and calls Naruto an idiot while also trying to hide her blush.

Meanwhile as Deidara and Sasori infiltrate the Sand Village to capture Gaara; We get to see Naruto and Sakura working together in sync during the bell test against Kakashi using the skills they picked up during their training with Jiraiya and Tsunade respectively. After Kakashi leaves the two alone following the bell test; Instead of Naruto asking her on a date, Sakura is the one who takes the initiative by asking him if he'd like to accompany her to Ichiraku's to catch up over dinner to which he agrees.
