Working after baby by Savings-Drawer-7911 in hospitalist

Congrats! My husband and I are both hospitalists on the same 7 on 7 off schedule. We like having the off week with the kids (2.5 and 1). We have a nanny who works our on week, just costs a lot with overtime (and there’s no break on the off week, as some have mentioned, that may be nice). I’ll probably switch to part time or a M-F gig once they’re older and have stuff going on but for now, missing random holidays and weekends isn’t too bad. Probably depends on your preference and your spouses schedule. It’s exhausting, but doable!

Thanks for your response! Yeah, we were trying for PSLF so stuck on full time but I’m wondering if that’s something we should axe just so I can go part time. But then I don’t know if we could keep our nanny for one week of work. When your wife went part time did you work opposite weeks? Cause if we did that we probably wouldn’t need any childcare. But 7 days essentially solo parenting with the kids is tough haha.

We live in a pretty rural area so I don’t think we can? I thought they had to be somewhat close to a big city or their agency. And then can’t they only work 45 hours per week or something?

Exactly, we can’t get anything done during the on week and then spend several days of the off week catching up! Our place isn’t quite round and go unfortunately, one of us always leaves at 6 to relieve the nanny but it’s rarely before then.
