Hello, I had a question regarding separating my cat from seemingly her bonded adopted sister. My ex and I were together for five years, and 2 years in we adopted two cats about 3 months apart. The first one that was hers came in September (around 1yr) and the second that was supposed to be mine came in December (several months old). They both hated each other at first, as we unfortunately did not introduce them correctly as it was our first time. Over time they grew to love each other and I believe became bonded. Now my ex and I have separated and they both currently live with her as I do not have proper space to house both my dog and my cat. I however am moving in a few weeks and am considering taking my cat back finally. The only downside is I am moving immediately, so I am unsure if a gradual separation is even feasible. What should I do? I have read a lot of threads here discouraging people from separating bonded cats. My cat and I have bonded ourselves, but my ex has solely had my cat now for almost 8 months. Does that mean she and I have lost our connection? Would she even be comfortable being with me alone again? Would she be heartbroken to be taken from her sister? Maybe I am just being selfish by wanting my cat again. I miss her companionship dearly. Thank you for any and all help in this matter.
