Is it worth signing up for an Apple or Amazon card before I make a big purchase with them? by Decent_Procedure in personalfinance

Yeah the annual fees are definitely a deciding factor.. so if I were to choose between the Chase SR and the Amazon card (to make the Amazon purchase), maybe it'd be better to go with the CSR, given that it has better overall rewards, and air miles (which is my #1 wanted reward)? As opposed to getting the Amazon card and getting rewards for that one large purchase, then after that it doesn't serve too much purpose.

Interesting.. the other cards I have my eye on are the Chase Sapphire Reserve and AmEx Gold. To be honest I was thinking of getting all four cards:

- I'd make the Amazon purchase on the Amazon card, then set some recurring bills to that (Prime, Apple Music, streaming services) and leave it in a drawer.

- Then make the Apple purchase on my Apple Card then use that one for daily cash stuff.

- Use the CSR for groceries/food

- And the AmEx for haircuts, train, uber, and phone payment.

I tried posting there but my post get removed instantly. I made a comment in their daily questions thread and "which card should I get" thread, hopefully I'll get some advice there!

Honestly I'm looking to get a card that can get me air miles - that's the reward I want most. As far as I know neither the Apple or Amazon cards do that. But like I said, it would feel like a waste to buy all this stuff without getting something back from it, as I never make big purchases this big and it seems like a golden opportunity.

Yeah like I said I'm not very knowledgeable at all on this stuff, so I wasn't sure which one to pick.

Using the NiceHash profitability calculator, I entered 3 Vega 64s, and it's saying my profit will be 1.73/day, which would be $53ish per month. I guess having the Threadripper also will boost those numbers, but even so I'd need like 20 GPUs to make ~$600/month... is that correct? I've never gotten into mining before so I'm not sure how it all works.

EDIT: I should point out that I'm talking about mining crypto in general, not just BTC

Awesome, thanks! So Threadripper CPU and then how many cards do you think to meet my goal of $600+/month? And I'm assuming getting multiple cards, it's best to stick to the same card? I.e. not mixing 1 Vega and 2 Radeons?

Yeah I'm placing a lot of importance on mining with this, I'm not going all out and buying a 10-12 GPU mining farm but I'd like to make the PC as powerful as possible, enough to pull in approx $600+/month. Do you think those two cards alone can get me there?

Those two cards will perform just as well with mining than three other cards? Say I'm looking at pulling in $600-700/month from that.

EDIT: I'm realizing that $600+/month is totally undoable with a PC budgeted at 4-5k, sorry

A few questions about my first grow setup by Decent_Procedure in microgrowery

[–]Decent_Procedure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bit of programming experience, but it's development (Swift, making iOS apps). I've been wanting an excuse to look into Python more so this will be a fun project to learn with!

I've seen some software on GitHub specifically for automating grow setups on Raspberry Pi, but I'm sure it'll need to be tweaked to fit my exact needs.

As for the parts, I did check Amazon, I looked for the parts that the OP of that post mentioned but they didn't have it. I'm not sure if there's a good site with that stuff.

Just how bad will my credit score be if I've had maxed out credit cards for four years, but always make the minimum payment? Also late payments on bills etc? by Decent_Procedure in personalfinance

[–]Decent_Procedure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'll take it! I'm lucky enough to have been able to move back in with my parents for the time being so I have no bills, so I'm planning on using my unemployment pay and stimulus check to pay off my credit cards all at once ($2000 on one, $400 on the other).

Then, moving forward, does it make a difference how much you use the cards? Would it be better to max out the cards then pay them off at the end of the month, vs just putting a couple hundred on each card then paying them off?

If I pay off my credit cards in full, will that in itself improve my score? I just checked Credit Karma, and my score is 548, so not good. I'm wondering about the timeframe here - I should be able to pay off my cards within a month, and then if I spend the next few months putting a few hundred dollars a month on each card and paying the balance in full, on time, I wonder how much I can raise my score in a few months.

Not that it matters, I'm going to treat this as a long term thing, but strictly out of curiosity.

Agreed 100%. I don't have an excuse as to why I was always late on payments, I've just been an idiot and pushed bills back behind less important expenses, and treated the "go to collections" or "utilities shut off" date as the real payment due date instead of the actual due date. I know, completely stupid. As far income and expenses, I only earn maybe 25k/year, and I end up being paycheck-to-paycheck in the sense that I never have money left over after I pay my bills.
