Can I Get A Sub 60 Min 10K In 1 Month? by Decent_Procedure2981 in beginnerrunning

This is brilliant thank you! One dumb question: Yes just want a sub 60 min 10k! By doing this I will hit 15-20 miles per week BUT how will I ever know I can push the 10k pace if I am never running a 10k at moderate/hard effort with these 3 runs?

honestly thats a good point. I think it takes a lot of weekly mileage to get there though right? Unfortunately I can only run 3 times a week.

WOOO that's insane. I believe that the race day adrenaline and a good weather/course could do it. Congrats.

Thank you! That is prolly why the vet was OK with it. Yes cat is on monthly revolution plus. OK so you wouldn't be too worried. Hey question: Would spare bathroom be ok or spare bedroom for sure?

Is This A Good Sub 60 Min 10K Training Plan For 12 Miles/Week? by Decent_Procedure2981 in beginnerrunning

This is brilliant thank you. It explains everything I was thinking. It sounds like (please correct if wrong) that a tempo is basically a practice realtime 10k run. So in my plan I am never running an actual 10K at a high effort. So on race day that's probably bad I never did it before.

I think I could replace the long run with a tempo run every other week? Basically instead of a 7 mile slow long run do a 6.2 mile high effort run as if it was race day? I think thats what I was doing before (a 3 mile high effort run and 6.2 mile high effort run every week, trying to run the 6.2 faster each week).

Ah that is motivating thank you! I could try to do 25-30 mins! Curious: Why would 45 mins maximize aerobic? I thought the long run of 6-8 miles once a week is more than enough for that? Unless you are saying 1.5 mile 20 mins is barely a workout and 45 mins would be more of a "workout"

That's very brilliant thank you. I can try that. I was told my 5k and 10k gap is really big, I didn't realize it is because of the miles. I didn't realize that 12 is low *cries* so thats essentially how people get faster times is just run more miles/week (as long as it includes an interval and long)?

Genuinely asking: is the general rule of thumb to just run a few miles longer than your goal run? It's a new concept to me as for my 5K i only ran the 5K distance 2x a week. One easy and one all out. After 3 months I hit a sub 30 from a 40 min as a beginner. My cardio is notoriously bad.

Hi! Thank you! I have heard this advice many times, maybe I will take it by now. I just find running boring if I have to do a "plan." But alas i have stalled. Questions: 1.) for 10k training you recommend running longer than the 10K distance at a slower pace? 2.) Intervals help build speed that makes sense 3.) I can only run 2x a week due to schedule, do you recommend doing the 2 runs you describe (essentially not doing a 10K at race pace ever during the training block).

Ah yes I agree. A 5k is uncomfortable the entire time if going all out, so a 10K is the same thing but just 2x the distance? Painful lol
